The golden age of cable television introduced dozens of unique networks, each with its own flavor of entertainment. As streaming rose and ratings dropped, many quietly vanished without fanfare. These 10 TV networks were once part of daily life — until they disappeared from the dial for good.

1. G4

Focused on video games and geek culture, G4 had a loyal cult following in the early 2000s. After multiple shutdowns and a short-lived revival in 2021, it was finally pulled again in 2022.

2. Court TV (Original Version)

Before it became “truTV,” Court TV aired real courtroom dramas and legal analysis. It was replaced in 2008 with reality programming, moving away from trials and into general entertainment.

3. The N

Nickelodeon’s teen-focused block, The N, introduced shows like Degrassi and Radio Free Roscoe. It was eventually folded into TeenNick in 2009, losing its distinct identity.

4. VH1 Classic

Dedicated to retro music videos and rock documentaries, VH1 Classic catered to an older crowd. It was phased out in 2016 and replaced with MTV Classic, which failed to capture the same vibe.

5. SoapNet

Created for soap opera fans, SoapNet reran daytime dramas and even aired prime-time soaps. Disney pulled the plug in 2013, making room for the preschool channel Disney Junior.

6. Chiller

Chiller specialized in horror flicks, creepy series, and supernatural reruns. Owned by NBCUniversal, it disappeared from cable in 2017 due to low carriage and limited demand.

7. Style Network

Aimed at fashion, beauty, and pop culture lovers, Style Network was rebranded as Esquire Network in 2013. The pivot to upscale men’s content didn’t work, and Esquire folded in 2017.

8. Nick GAS (Games and Sports for Kids)

Nick GAS was Nickelodeon’s spinoff dedicated to game shows and athletic challenges like Legends of the Hidden Temple. It vanished in 2007, quietly replaced by The N.

9. TechTV

TechTV offered nerd-centric news, tutorials, and gadget reviews before merging with G4 in 2004. The merger diluted its tech focus and alienated longtime viewers.

10. PBS Kids Sprout

This preschool channel launched in 2005 and was loved for shows like Caillou and Barney. NBCUniversal rebranded it as Universal Kids in 2017, shifting focus to older children.
