Public spaces have long served as the heart of communities, where people can gather, relax, and connect. However, many of these spaces have experienced changes in their safety and overall feel as a result of factors such as urban development, increased crime, and a lack of upkeep. In this article, we look at 15 public spaces that once felt like safe havens but no longer provide the same level of security. We investigate why these changes have occurred, from societal shifts to physical changes in the environment, and emphasize the importance of reclaiming and revitalizing these spaces for future generations.
1. Riverside Park

Riverside Park was once a popular destination for evening strolls, picnics, and family gatherings. The park’s atmosphere was tranquil, with well-kept paths and ample lighting. Over time, neglect, vandalism, and crime have resulted in fewer visitors and a sense of unease in the area.
