Donelson is currently a specimen of an early postwar suburb with an inventory of largely half-century-old, red brick, detached ranch-style houses. Some infill has occurred in recent years, but mostly linked to expansion of sewers. The desirability of the area was enhanced somewhat by impounding Percy Priest Lake on the Stones River in the late 1960s, which enhanced summertime recreational activities.
