Aaron Donald is once again making an impact, this time away from the football field. The former Los Angeles Rams defensive star joined the revived Ice Bucket Challenge this week, using his platform to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage fellow NFL players to continue supporting the campaign.

Donald participated in the movement after former NFL running back Chris Johnson publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis during an appearance on Good Morning America on June 29. Johnson’s announcement has helped bring renewed attention to the Ice Bucket Challenge, which first became a worldwide fundraising and awareness campaign in 2014.

Although Donald retired after an illustrious NFL career, he remains one of the league’s most respected figures. His decision to participate adds another prominent voice to an effort that continues to gain momentum across the football community.

Rather than ending the challenge with his own participation, Donald encouraged several current Rams players to carry the campaign forward. By nominating some of the franchise’s biggest names, he helped expand the movement’s visibility while showing support for Johnson during a difficult chapter of his life.

1. Donald Joins The Campaign

Donald shared a video on Instagram showing his participation in the Ice Bucket Challenge while expressing solidarity with Johnson. His message was brief but heartfelt, emphasizing support for the former running back and the broader effort to increase awareness of ALS.

After completing the challenge, Donald nominated three members of the Rams organization to participate next: newly acquired pass rusher Myles Garrett, standout wide receiver Puka Nacua, and defensive lineman Kobie Turner.

The nominations immediately connected the campaign to several of the franchise’s most recognizable players. With each athlete possessing a significant following, the challenge has the potential to reach even more fans throughout the NFL community.

Donald has long been respected not only for his accomplishments on the field but also for his leadership away from the game. His involvement reinforces how influential former players can remain when supporting charitable causes and raising awareness for important issues.

2. Johnson Inspires NFL Support

The renewed campaign gained momentum after Johnson publicly disclosed his ALS diagnosis during a television appearance late last month. By sharing his personal battle, the former Pro Bowl running back encouraged players, fans, and organizations throughout the league to once again participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Originally launched in 2014, the challenge became a global phenomenon by combining social media participation with fundraising for ALS research. Millions of people, including athletes, entertainers, and public figures, helped raise awareness through the campaign.

Johnson’s announcement has given the movement new significance within professional football. Current and former NFL players have increasingly used their platforms to express support while encouraging additional participation from teammates and fans.

Donald became one of the latest prominent figures to join that effort, helping extend the campaign’s reach through the Rams organization and reminding supporters that the challenge remains focused on increasing awareness and advancing research.

3. Rams Players Can Extend The Message

Donald selected three players who represent different parts of the Rams’ current roster. Garrett, acquired in one of the offseason’s biggest trades, now carries the responsibility of leading a defense once anchored by Donald himself.

Nacua has quickly developed into one of the NFL’s brightest young offensive stars, earning national recognition for his production and popularity among fans. His participation would likely bring additional attention to the campaign from a broad audience.

Turner has also emerged as an important contributor on the defensive side of the ball, making him another influential voice capable of encouraging teammates and supporters to join the effort.

Whether Garrett, Nacua, and Turner accept Donald’s challenge remains to be seen, but the campaign continues to unite members of the football community around a meaningful cause. By passing the challenge to the next generation of Rams players, Donald has helped ensure the focus remains not only on the game itself but also on supporting those affected by ALS.
