Aaron Rodgers Has No Interest in Imitating Tom Brady
Four time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made one thing abundantly clear about his future once his playing days end. While many former NFL stars have embraced television roles after retirement, Rodgers says that path holds no appeal for him. During a candid appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the veteran signal caller shut down speculation that he could step into a broadcasting career similar to Tom Brady. Instead, Rodgers suggested that when football is over, he plans to step away from the spotlight entirely.

Few athletes in modern football command attention quite like Aaron Rodgers. Whether it is his performances on the field or his candid interviews off it, the veteran quarterback rarely speaks without sparking conversation across the NFL world.
Now entering the later stages of a legendary career, Rodgers continues to face questions about what comes next. Retirement rumors have surrounded him for months, particularly after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ playoff exit and the uncertainty about whether he will return for another season.
Many former NFL stars transition into media roles once their careers end. The most notable recent example is Tom Brady, who signed a massive broadcasting deal after retiring from the league. Given Rodgers’ personality and deep understanding of the game, some analysts have speculated that he could eventually take a similar route.
Rodgers, however, has no interest in following that script. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the Steelers quarterback addressed the topic directly. His answer left little room for interpretation.
1. Rodgers Says He Plans to Disappear From the Spotlight
When the discussion turned toward life after football, Rodgers offered a response that immediately caught attention across the sports world. “When this is done, it’s Keyser Soze, and you won’t see me,” Rodgers said on the show.
The reference to the mysterious character from the film The Usual Suspects was Rodgers’ way of describing how completely he plans to disappear from public view. He made it clear that television work or media appearances hold no appeal for him once his playing career ends.
“You won’t see me,” Rodgers continued. “I’m not doing TV. I am not going to be out and about.”
Those remarks quickly gained traction because of the path Brady has chosen since leaving the NFL. The seven time Super Bowl champion signed a reported $375 million broadcasting deal with Fox Sports and now serves as a high profile analyst calling games each week. Rodgers made it clear that he does not envision a similar future.
2. Retirement Speculation Continues
Talk about Rodgers’ potential retirement has grown louder in recent months. The 42 year old quarterback joined the Steelers before the 2025 season, and Pittsburgh’s early playoff exit only fueled questions about how long he intends to keep playing.
Despite the speculation, Rodgers emphasized that his appearance on McAfee’s show was not meant to signal any major decision.
“Anybody on here who is expecting me to make a big decision, just shut off, turn it off now,” Rodgers told the audience.
For now, the future Hall of Famer appears comfortable keeping his plans private while he enjoys the offseason.
3. Rodgers Still Holds Deep Respect for Mike McCarthy
Although Rodgers avoided making any announcement about his playing future, he did take time to praise Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy.
Rodgers and McCarthy share a long history together dating back to their years with the Green Bay Packers. During that time, the duo formed one of the most successful quarterback coach partnerships in the league, highlighted by their victory in Super Bowl XLV.
Rodgers spoke warmly about the coach who helped guide much of his career. “Mike’s one of the great guys in the league,” Rodgers said during the interview. “Just an absolutely exceptional human being with a huge heart. I loved my time with Mike.”
The quarterback added that McCarthy’s leadership style has always resonated with players. “He really cares about the players. But he also holds guys accountable and creates a lot of structure and details in the process.”
4. A Different Ending Than Many Expected
While many fans have imagined Rodgers eventually moving into broadcasting or media once he leaves the field, the quarterback appears to have a very different vision.
Instead of remaining a public figure like Brady, Rodgers suggested that he plans to quietly step away from the spotlight when the time comes.
Retirement could arrive soon, or Rodgers could decide to return for another season in Pittsburgh. For now, that decision remains unresolved.
But one thing is already certain. When Aaron Rodgers finally walks away from the NFL, he has no interest in imitating Tom Brady.
