Alabama continues to reshape its offensive line, adding experienced talent from the transfer portal as it prepares for the 2026 season. On Friday, the Crimson Tide landed Cal Poly center Racin Delgatty, giving the program another versatile and battle-tested lineman. Delgatty is Alabama’s third portal acquisition this offseason, joining Michigan transfers Kaden Strayhorn and Ty Haywood.
After three seasons at Cal Poly, Delgatty brings a reputation for consistency and reliability. Listed between 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-4 and weighing roughly 300–310 pounds, he logged 1,316 career offensive snaps, 1,302 of which came at center, surrendering just one sack and two quarterback hits according to Pro Football Focus.
In 2025, Delgatty started all 12 games for Cal Poly and earned Second-Team All-Big Sky honors. He posted a 79.9 pass-blocking grade, allowing zero sacks and just 11 pressures over 460 pass-blocking snaps, while recording a 61.8 run-blocking grade across 312 snaps. His performance against Power Four opponents, Stanford and Utah, was flawless—63 snaps without giving up a single sack or pressure.
Alabama’s interest in Delgatty was strong from the start. The rising redshirt junior entered the portal on Jan. 2 and quickly attracted attention from multiple Power Five programs, ultimately committing to the Crimson Tide after official visits on Jan. 15 and 16. He will have two years of eligibility remaining to contribute in Tuscaloosa.
1. Proven Production at Cal Poly
Delgatty’s collegiate career demonstrates both durability and elite technique. Over two seasons (2024–2025), he allowed just one sack, two quarterback hits, and 14 total pressures across 785 pass-blocking snaps. Such consistency highlights his ability to handle interior defensive linemen while maintaining clean pockets for his quarterbacks. His combination of size, athleticism, and technique allows him to contribute in both run and pass schemes. Pro Football Focus graded him strongly in pass protection, while his run-blocking numbers also show that he can generate push at the line of scrimmage. Alabama coaches will likely value his experience in handling complex defensive fronts. Delgatty’s exposure to multiple schemes and his ability to stay disciplined in high-pressure situations make him an ideal fit for a program seeking immediate impact players. With Delgatty’s addition, Alabama gains a center capable of stabilizing the line amid the departures of other key linemen. His track record in Big Sky competition, and solid performances against Power Four opponents, suggest he can transition successfully to SEC play.
2. Depth and Opportunity in Tuscaloosa
Alabama enters 2026 with significant openings along the offensive line. Two-year starter Parker Brailsford was drafted into the NFL, backup Geno VanDeMark has exhausted his eligibility, and third-string center Joseph Ionata transferred to Georgia Tech. Overall, the Tide lost 10 scholarship linemen via the draft or portal, six of whom had starting experience last season. Delgatty’s arrival helps fill that gap immediately. He becomes one of 12 scholarship offensive linemen for 2026, providing both depth and a proven option at center. Michael Carroll remains the only returning lineman with starting experience, underscoring the importance of the portal acquisitions. The Crimson Tide’s recent success in the portal shows a clear trend. Delgatty follows tight end Josh Cuevas, another Cal Poly product, who contributed 37 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns for Alabama in 2025. This pipeline demonstrates Alabama’s ability to identify and develop talent from smaller programs. Beyond filling immediate needs, Delgatty offers the coaching staff flexibility in personnel packages. His versatility along the interior line allows for adjustments in both run-heavy and pass-focused schemes, helping Alabama adapt to opponents while keeping the line competitive in every game.
3. Strategic Fit and Outlook
Racin Delgatty’s addition reflects Alabama’s strategy of blending experienced portal players with homegrown recruits. He arrives ready to compete for starting time, providing a reliable anchor in a unit undergoing substantial turnover. The Crimson Tide have emphasized both experience and proven performance this offseason. By targeting a veteran center with extensive snaps at a high level, Alabama ensures continuity and stability in a line that will play a critical role in protecting quarterbacks and establishing the run game. Delgatty’s commitment also signals the coaching staff’s confidence in the transfer portal as a resource for immediate contributors. With multiple departures and a limited pool of returning starters, acquiring a player of his caliber mitigates risk and accelerates the team’s readiness for 2026. Looking ahead, Delgatty has an opportunity to make an immediate impact while providing mentorship to younger linemen. His presence strengthens the offensive front and positions Alabama to maintain its competitive edge in the SEC despite offseason attrition.
