The Atlanta Dream continued their strong start to the season on Tuesday night, earning a 77-72 road victory over the Dallas Wings at College Park Center. The win followed another close result earlier in the week, marking an early 2-0 start for Atlanta.

The Dream closed the game with a decisive 9-2 run over the final five minutes, using timely defense and free-throw execution to secure the result. Angel Reese played a key role in that closing stretch, knocking down two critical free throws to help seal the victory.

Atlanta had already opened its season with a narrow 91-90 win over the Minnesota Lynx, showing an early ability to perform in high-pressure late-game situations. The team’s consistency in close finishes has quickly become a defining early storyline.

Tuesday’s win also carried added attention due to the matchup against rookie standout Paige Bueckers, adding another layer of competition between two highly anticipated young stars.

1. Reese Delivers Another Impactful Double-Double

Reese delivered another strong all-around performance, finishing with 12 points and 16 rebounds in the victory. Her presence on the glass proved especially important, as she recorded eight offensive rebounds that created additional scoring opportunities. Her ability to control the paint was a major factor in Atlanta’s ability to maintain possession during critical stretches of the game. Those extra possessions helped offset shooting inconsistencies elsewhere in the lineup. Beyond scoring, Reese added two assists, a steal, and a block, contributing across multiple areas of the floor. Her activity level on both ends reinforced her growing role within the Dream’s system. The performance marked another example of her consistent production, particularly in rebounding and physical interior play, which has become a key part of Atlanta’s identity.

2. Atlanta’s Depth and Late-Game Execution Decide Outcome

While Reese provided interior strength, Atlanta’s perimeter scoring was led by Allisha Gray, who finished with a game-high 26 points, including four three-pointers. Her shooting stretched Dallas’s defense and opened driving lanes throughout the night. Jordin Canada also played a significant role, contributing 19 points along with seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Her all-around production helped stabilize Atlanta’s offense during key moments. The combination of perimeter scoring and defensive pressure allowed the Dream to maintain control late in the game. That balance proved crucial during the final minutes when possession became more valuable than pace. Dallas was led by 15 points from Bueckers, who shot 5-of-12 from the field but struggled to consistently break through Atlanta’s defensive sets in the closing stretch.

3. Rivalry Narrative and Early Season Outlook Develop

The matchup carried added narrative weight given Reese’s history against Dallas. She is now 3-0 against Bueckers in head-to-head meetings, according to StatMuse, continuing a trend that has followed both players since earlier stages of their careers. Reese previously faced the Wings during her time with the Chicago Sky, where she helped complete a season sweep in 2025. Those games further established her consistency against Dallas across multiple matchups. Her move to the Atlanta Dream in April, following a trade from Chicago involving future draft assets, marked a significant shift in her career trajectory. Despite earlier comments reflecting frustration with her former team, reports later clarified there was no contentious split. With Atlanta now off to a strong start, Reese’s transition appears to be settling into a productive early phase. The Dream will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Las Vegas Aces next.
