Auburn scored a significant recruiting victory Thursday when Hueytown (Ala.) defensive lineman Donivan Moore pledged to the program, giving head coach Alex Golesh his second commitment for the 2027 class. Moore, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound standout, is ranked No. 52 nationally in the Rivals300 and is considered the No. 5 defensive lineman in the country.

The 247Sports composite rankings list Moore as the No. 72 overall player nationally, a top-five defensive lineman, and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama. His combination of size, athleticism, and production makes him one of the most highly sought-after defensive prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle.

Moore chose Auburn over more than 30 scholarship offers, including powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Ole Miss, and USC. Auburn became his top school after extending an offer last fall, and he publicly indicated his preference for the Tigers on Feb. 1 following a campus visit.

He made his decision official on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter), posting, “All glory to god, im staying home WAR DAMN EAGLE,” signaling his commitment to remain in-state and contribute to Auburn’s defensive front.

1. Moore’s High School Impact

As a sophomore at Hueytown High School, Moore posted 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns. His productivity on the field has earned him recognition across multiple national recruiting services and solidified his status as a top-100 prospect. Moore’s blend of size and athleticism gives Auburn an immediate boost in the trenches, an area that Golesh has emphasized for the 2027 class. His versatility and playmaking ability make him capable of impacting both the run game and passing situations. Recruiting analysts noted that Moore’s skill set and production rank him among the elite defensive prospects in the country, making him a cornerstone piece for Auburn’s long-term defensive plans. His high school performance, combined with his national ranking, reflects both his potential and the strong in-state talent pipeline available to SEC programs like Auburn.

2. Impact on Auburn’s 2027 Class

Moore becomes the Tigers’ first defensive commitment in the 2027 cycle, joining three-star tight end Trae Proctor of Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage, who committed Jan. 19. His addition immediately elevated Auburn’s class rankings, moving from No. 54 nationally and No. 15 in the SEC to No. 36 nationally and No. 11 in the conference, according to 247Sports’ class calculator. Auburn’s coaching staff, including defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams, defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, and director of player personnel Alex Fagan, played key roles in Moore’s recruitment. Their relationships and guidance were cited by recruiting observers as instrumental in securing his pledge. Moore is scheduled to take an official visit to Auburn on June 5, allowing him to further immerse himself in the program and finalize his plans for the next stage of his football career. With Moore committed, Auburn strengthens its position in the competitive SEC recruiting landscape and sets the tone for a defensive-focused 2027 class aimed at building depth and talent along the front line.

3. Looking Ahead

Moore’s commitment represents a major home-state win for Auburn, providing immediate buzz for the 2027 class and reinforcing the Tigers’ recruiting strategy under Golesh. His size, skill, and production are expected to make him an early-impact player once he arrives on campus. The Tigers will continue to pursue top national and regional talent, but landing Moore sends a strong signal to other elite prospects that Auburn is serious about building a championship-caliber roster. As Auburn looks to maintain momentum in recruiting, Moore’s pledge could help attract additional high-profile defensive linemen and solidify the Tigers’ defensive front for years to come. Ultimately, Moore’s commitment underscores Auburn’s ability to compete for the best in-state talent while strengthening its position nationally in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
