Sunday night’s matchup between the Orlando Magic and San Antonio Spurs carried the feel of a measuring-stick game for two young teams trying to build momentum. By the end, it also featured one of the evening’s most talked-about moments — a bruising collision between Desmond Bane and Victor Wembanyama that briefly halted play and raised the intensity inside Frost Bank Center.

The game marked the second and final regular-season meeting between the clubs. For Orlando, it was another chance to test itself against one of the league’s most intriguing talents in Wembanyama. For San Antonio, it was an opportunity to complete a season sweep and protect home court.

Midway through the third quarter, that competitive edge boiled over. As Wembanyama worked to establish position on offense, Bane barreled into him, sending the 7-foot-4 forward sprawling to the floor and prompting an immediate review from officials.

The play resulted in a flagrant foul on Bane, a ruling that underscored just how forceful the contact had been. Wembanyama, however, quickly got to his feet, seemingly unfazed, and continued the game without injury.

1. Third-Quarter Collision Sparks Tension

The sequence unfolded in a crowded half-court set, with Wembanyama navigating traffic to get open. Bane, known for his physical style and strong build, stepped into him with an elbow and shoulder that knocked the Spurs star backward. Given the size difference, the sight was jarring. Wembanyama towers over most defenders, yet the impact from Bane — compact and powerful — was enough to send him tumbling. Officials stopped play to review the contact, ultimately upgrading it to a flagrant foul. The call gave San Antonio free throws and possession, while the crowd buzzed over the intensity of the play. Though tempers didn’t escalate further, the moment served as a reminder of how physical games can become when young teams fight for position and pride late in the season.

2. Bane Brings Edge to Orlando

For Orlando, Bane’s approach wasn’t out of character. Acquired earlier in a three-team trade involving Memphis and Phoenix, the guard was brought in to add toughness and a veteran presence to a developing roster. His reputation has long centered on grit as much as scoring. At 6-foot-5 with a muscular frame, Bane often plays bigger than his size, attacking both ends of the floor with force. The collision with Wembanyama fit that mold — aggressive, unapologetic and emblematic of the identity Orlando hopes to cultivate. Even when matched against one of the league’s most unique physical talents, Bane showed little hesitation. He backed it up offensively as well, finishing with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting, keeping the Magic within reach for much of the night.

3. Wembanyama and Spurs Get Last Word

Ultimately, though, the final result favored San Antonio. Wembanyama responded with a strong performance of his own, leading the Spurs with 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including a highlight dunk that energized the home crowd. His ability to shake off the hard foul and stay productive underscored both his resilience and growing poise. Rather than letting the moment rattle him, he continued to influence the game on both ends. San Antonio gradually pulled away in the fourth quarter, tightening its defense and converting timely shots to secure a 112–103 victory. The win completed a regular-season sweep of Orlando and provided another step forward for a young Spurs group. For both teams, the night offered a snapshot of their evolving identities — Orlando leaning into physicality, San Antonio leaning on its franchise cornerstone — with the Spurs walking away with the result.
