Caitlin Clark has already changed the landscape of the WNBA since entering the league, but the Indiana Fever star believes her journey is still far from complete. Despite becoming one of the most recognizable players in basketball, Clark remains focused on development and improving every part of her game.

During a conversation with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Clark reflected on where she believes she currently stands in her professional career. Asked to rate herself on a scale from one to 10, with 10 representing her peak performance, the young guard gave herself a six.

The answer reflected Clark’s belief that injuries have limited her ability to fully experience the early stages of her WNBA career. While she has already shown elite scoring and playmaking ability, she feels she has not yet had the consistency or opportunity needed to reach her highest level.

Clark explained that although many fans feel like they have seen plenty from her already, she has only played a limited number of games compared to other stars. The injuries she has dealt with have made the transition to the professional level more complicated.

“I’ve only played 60 games in this league, and I’ve played two playoff games,” Clark explained, pointing out that her professional experience is still relatively small. For a player with such high expectations, she believes patience remains important.

1. A Career Still Taking Shape

Clark entered the WNBA with enormous attention after becoming one of the most celebrated college basketball players in history. Her arrival brought new excitement to the Fever and increased attention around the league, but her development has also included challenges. The biggest obstacle has been staying healthy. Clark missed significant time during her previous season, limiting her ability to build momentum and continue adjusting to the physical demands of professional basketball. She explained that returning from injury required rebuilding confidence and rhythm, especially while preparing for international competition. Finding her comfort level again became a major part of her growth process. Despite those setbacks, Clark has continued to produce at a high level. Her ability to create shots, distribute the ball, and control the pace of games has kept her among the league’s most impactful young players.

2. Strong Numbers And High Expectations

Clark’s performance with Indiana has shown why many believe she has superstar potential. This season, she has averaged 20.8 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game while continuing to carry a major role in the Fever offense. Her shooting numbers have also reflected the challenges of adapting to the WNBA, with Clark working through the defensive attention that comes with being one of the league’s most dangerous offensive players. Even with impressive statistics, Clark believes her best basketball is still ahead. At just 24 years old, she sees improvement as an ongoing process rather than something already completed. “I still feel like I have so much room to improve,” Clark said, emphasizing that she wants to continue learning and becoming a more complete player. Her mindset reflects a focus on long-term growth rather than immediate achievements.

3. Future Potential And Fever’s Rise

When asked whether it is concerning for the rest of the WNBA that Clark has not yet reached her full potential, she responded with confidence but avoided making bold predictions. Her simple answer showed that she understands the work ahead. “I guess, we’ll have to see,” Clark said, leaving the focus on what she can continue to accomplish rather than what others expect from her. The Fever have benefited from Clark’s presence as the franchise continues to build around a young core. Indiana entered its matchup against the Atlanta Dream with a 9-6 record, showing progress after years of rebuilding. For Clark, the next stage of her career will be about consistency, health, and continued improvement. While her impact has already been significant, she believes there is still another level she can reach.
