Stephon Castle continues to look increasingly comfortable in an expanded role, and Sunday night offered another glimpse of his growing confidence. Facing the Washington Wizards, the San Antonio Spurs guard delivered both substance and spectacle, blending playmaking control with athletic flair.

Now in his second NBA season, Castle has embraced life as a full-time starter. His responsibilities have grown alongside his minutes, and the Spurs have leaned on his versatility as a steady offensive option. The trust has shown in both usage and freedom.

That freedom produced one of the game’s defining moments late in the first half. Castle forced a turnover, pushed the ball ahead, and elevated into a windmill dunk that energized the building and underscored San Antonio’s momentum.

The play symbolized more than athleticism. It reflected Castle’s growing imprint on a Spurs team that continues to build rhythm and confidence as one of the West’s early-season standouts.

1. A Game-Changing Second Quarter

The night began competitively, with Washington edging ahead 28–26 after the first quarter. The Wizards matched San Antonio’s pace early, keeping the contest balanced through the opening minutes. That balance vanished in the second period. The Spurs erupted with a 43–21 scoring run, overwhelming Washington with pace, physicality, and ball movement. The surge flipped the game decisively. San Antonio’s defensive pressure fueled the run, forcing turnovers and limiting clean looks. At the other end, the Spurs capitalized in transition and attacked the rim consistently. By halftime, the Wizards were chasing the game, unable to recover from the second-quarter deficit that defined the outcome.

2. Castle’s All-Around Impact

Castle finished the night with 18 points, 11 assists, five rebounds, and three steals, delivering one of his most complete performances of the season. While his shooting efficiency was uneven, his overall influence remained steady. He shot 4-of-16 from the field and 1-of-5 from three-point range, but compensated by getting to the free-throw line, converting 9-of-13 attempts. His playmaking and defensive activity filled the gaps. The assist total reflected his growing command of the offense. Castle consistently found teammates in rhythm, keeping San Antonio organized even when his own shot wasn’t falling. The windmill dunk stood out visually, but it was his ability to control tempo and create opportunities that anchored his performance.

3. Depth, Discipline, and Direction

San Antonio’s success extended well beyond one player. Seven Spurs scored in double figures, highlighting the depth and balance that have defined their season. De’Aaron Fox led the way with 27 points and seven rebounds. Luke Kornet added 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Victor Wembanyama posted 14 points and 12 boards. Harrison Barnes chipped in 14 points and two assists, reinforcing the team’s collective effort. The Spurs dominated key categories, making 25 free throws, grabbing 61 rebounds, and recording 26 assists. Washington trailed in each area, struggling to match San Antonio’s discipline and execution. With the win, the Spurs improved to 21–7, holding second place in the Western Conference and extending their winning streak to six games as they prepare to host the league-leading Oklahoma City Thunder.
