LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Clippers’ 2025–26 season has been defined by extremes, beginning with one of the league’s worst records before evolving into one of its most impressive turnarounds. After dropping 21 of their first 28 games, the team has surged back into contention, highlighted by a recent 114–113 win over the Indiana Pacers sealed by Kawhi Leonard.

The dramatic shift has not only changed the Clippers’ trajectory but also reshaped the narrative around a team that once appeared headed for a disappointing campaign. Since their early struggles, Los Angeles has gone 32–15 over its last 47 games, a stretch that reflects renewed cohesion and improved execution.

Veteran forward Nicolas Batum, now in his 18th NBA season, described the experience as unlike anything he has encountered. For a player who has seen the league’s ups and downs, the Clippers’ season has stood out for its unpredictability and eventual resurgence.

Behind the numbers lies a story of adjustments, patience, and belief. From extended practice sessions to steady leadership, the Clippers have pieced together a revival that has positioned them firmly in the playoff race.

1. From Early Collapse to Midseason Revival

The Clippers’ season began in troubling fashion, with the team falling to 6–21 and struggling to find consistency on both ends of the court. Injuries, chemistry issues, and uneven performances contributed to a stretch that placed them near the bottom of the standings. At that stage, the outlook appeared bleak. Losses piled up, and questions mounted about whether the roster could meet expectations. For a team built around star talent, the early results were far from encouraging. Yet the turning point began to emerge gradually. A shift in approach, combined with improved health and rhythm, allowed the Clippers to stabilize. Key players began to find form, and the team started to string together more competitive performances. The transformation became evident over time, culminating in a strong run that reversed their fortunes. What once seemed like a lost season evolved into a legitimate push for postseason positioning.

2. Practice Time Sparks Crucial Reset

According to Batum, a pivotal moment came after the team’s elimination from the NBA Cup in Las Vegas. While the loss itself was disappointing, it created an unexpected opportunity: time to regroup and refocus. With a lighter schedule during that stretch, the Clippers were able to hold extended practice sessions — something rarely possible during the regular season. These sessions, lasting up to two hours, allowed the team to address issues in detail. Batum likened the period to a “new training camp,” emphasizing how valuable the time was in refining both strategy and execution. The extra work helped players better understand their roles and improved overall cohesion. For head coach Tyronn Lue and his staff, the practices provided a chance to correct mistakes that had plagued the team early on. The results became visible in subsequent games, as the Clippers began to play with greater discipline and confidence.

3. Leadership and Belief Drive Sustained Success

Throughout the difficult early stretch, Lue’s approach remained consistent. Batum noted that the coach never showed signs of panic, even when the team’s record was at its lowest point. Instead, Lue maintained a calm and steady presence, reinforcing the belief that the team could turn things around. That mindset, according to Batum, played a crucial role in keeping players focused and motivated. Sometimes, all it takes is a single breakthrough moment. For the Clippers, a win against the Los Angeles Lakers served as a catalyst, helping shift momentum and build confidence within the group. Since then, the team has carried that belief forward, culminating in performances like Leonard’s recent game-winning shot against Indiana. Even in that moment, Leonard considered deferring, a reflection of the trust and unselfishness that now defines the team.
