The Charlotte Hornets are gaining momentum at a critical point in the NBA season, and their recent play suggests a team beginning to find its rhythm. After weeks of steady improvement, Charlotte delivered one of its most impressive performances of the year with a commanding win over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.

Charlotte’s 118–89 victory showcased the team’s growing confidence and cohesion, particularly on the offensive end. The win pushed the Hornets to a 32–31 record, marking the first time they have climbed above the .500 mark since late October.

Head coach Charles Lee credited much of the team’s recent progress to a key addition at the trade deadline: guard Coby White. Since arriving in Charlotte, White has quickly become an integral part of the rotation, providing both scoring punch and a stabilizing presence for the offense.

With the Hornets now riding a six-game winning streak, the team appears to be evolving into one of the league’s more dangerous rising squads. White’s impact, according to Lee, has gone beyond statistics, helping elevate the team’s decision-making and overall execution during crucial moments.

1. A Trade Deadline Addition Paying Dividends

When Charlotte acquired White before the trade deadline, the move was viewed as an effort to add experience and scoring depth to the backcourt. In the weeks since, the guard has delivered exactly that, quickly establishing himself as a valuable contributor in multiple areas. White’s ability to operate both on and off the ball has provided the Hornets with added flexibility. Whether initiating offense or spacing the floor as a perimeter threat, his skill set has helped balance Charlotte’s attack. Against Boston, White delivered another efficient outing. He finished with 17 points and six assists, shooting 6-of-9 from the field in just 20 minutes. The performance underscored his ability to make the most of limited opportunities while maintaining control of the offense. Lee described White as a “battle-tested” veteran whose presence has had a noticeable influence on the team’s overall environment. His composure, particularly in late-quarter situations, has given the coaching staff confidence to place the ball in his hands when it matters most.

2. Balanced Offense Fuels Dominant Win

Charlotte’s victory over Boston was not the result of one standout player alone. Instead, it reflected the kind of balanced offensive effort that has defined the Hornets’ recent success. Rookie Kon Knueppel led all Charlotte scorers with 20 points, continuing to showcase his potential as an emerging offensive threat. His scoring efficiency helped the Hornets build and maintain momentum throughout the contest. Star guard LaMelo Ball and rising wing Brandon Miller each contributed 18 points, providing consistent production from the starting lineup. Their scoring versatility stretched Boston’s defense and created opportunities across the floor. Charlotte’s ball movement and spacing proved particularly effective, allowing the Hornets to generate high-quality looks throughout the night. By sharing scoring responsibilities among several players, the team avoided the offensive stagnation that had plagued them earlier in the season.

3. Defense and Depth Power Charlotte’s Rise

While the Hornets’ offense has drawn much of the attention during their winning streak, their defensive performance against Boston was equally significant. Holding a high-powered Celtics lineup to just 89 points demonstrated the team’s commitment on the defensive end. Charlotte’s defenders disrupted passing lanes, contested shots aggressively, and forced Boston into uncomfortable offensive possessions. The result was one of the Celtics’ lowest scoring outputs of the season. Depth has also become a defining strength for the Hornets. With White leading the second unit, Charlotte now boasts a more stable rotation that allows the coaching staff to manage minutes without sacrificing productivity. Only a month ago, the Hornets were struggling simply to remain in the play-in conversation. Now, with a deeper roster and improved chemistry, they appear poised to make a legitimate push toward the postseason.
