The Washington Commanders are entering the offseason with a clear objective: a return to competitiveness after finishing the 2025–26 season with a 5–12 record. Much of that turnaround will depend on the health and development of quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels’ availability was a major issue throughout the previous season, limiting his ability to establish rhythm and consistency. Injuries disrupted what was expected to be a developmental step forward in his second year.
Despite those setbacks, Washington’s leadership remains encouraged by how Daniels has approached the offseason. The organization believes his preparation could be a key factor in resetting the trajectory of the franchise.
General manager Adam Peters offered a detailed update on Daniels’ condition and work habits, emphasizing both his physical recovery and commitment to improvement.
1. Peters Highlights Strong Offseason Progress
Adam Peters described Jayden Daniels’ offseason as highly productive during an appearance on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.” The third-year general manager noted that the quarterback has already taken meaningful steps in his preparation for the upcoming season. According to Peters, Daniels has been training in Los Angeles, working closely with personal trainers and a dedicated throwing coach. The emphasis has been on refining mechanics while maintaining physical conditioning. Peters also stated that Daniels appears to be in excellent physical shape and has shown no lingering concerns from last season’s injuries. The organization views his current condition as a positive sign heading into training camp. The tone from Washington’s front office suggests confidence that Daniels is on track to enter the new season fully prepared to take on a larger leadership role.
2. Injury-Plagued Season Limits Production
Daniels’ 2025 campaign was heavily impacted by a series of injuries that significantly reduced his availability. He began the season with a left knee sprain in Week 2, which set the tone for a disrupted year. Later in the season, he suffered a right hamstring strain in Week 7, followed by a dislocated left elbow in Week 9. The elbow injury resurfaced in December, further limiting his ability to return to form. In total, Daniels appeared in just seven games, finishing with 1,262 passing yards and 10 total touchdowns, including eight passing scores. He also completed 60.6 percent of his passes during that span. The stop-start nature of his season made it difficult for both the player and coaching staff to evaluate long-term development progress.
3. Washington’s Future Hinges on Quarterback Health
The Commanders enter the new season with the understanding that Daniels’ health will be central to their success. His ability to remain on the field is viewed as a foundational requirement for improvement. Washington is expected to surround Daniels with additional offensive talent, aiming to create a more stable environment for his continued growth. The organization believes that better support could help unlock his full potential. At just 25 years old, Daniels still has significant room to develop, and the coaching staff remains focused on refining his decision-making and consistency. His offseason work is seen as an encouraging step in that direction. If Daniels can stay healthy, the Commanders believe they have a chance to reset after a disappointing season and re-establish themselves as a more competitive team in the NFC.
