The Arizona Diamondbacks are once again managing early-season injury concerns involving star outfielder Corbin Carroll, who was removed from Thursday’s lineup following a hip issue sustained the night before against the New York Mets. The setback comes shortly after his return from a previous hand injury suffered during spring training.

Carroll’s latest issue occurred during Wednesday’s 7-2 win over New York, when he appeared to tweak his hip while running out a triple. Although he finished the game, discomfort later led to precautionary evaluation.

Reports indicate that Carroll believes the injury is minor and does not expect a long absence, providing early optimism for Arizona as the season progresses.

The Diamondbacks have opted for caution, holding him out of Thursday’s matchup while assessing his recovery.

1. Injury Occurs During Standout Performance

Carroll’s hip discomfort developed during one of his more productive outings of the young season, as he continued to impact the game offensively against the Mets. The issue surfaced while he was completing a triple in Wednesday’s victory. Despite feeling the injury during the play, Carroll remained in the game and helped Arizona secure a 7-2 win. His ability to finish the contest initially suggested the issue was not severe. However, stiffness and tightness reportedly became more noticeable afterward, prompting the team to reevaluate his availability for the next game in the series. The timing of the injury adds to a start-of-season stretch already shaped by health concerns for the 25-year-old outfielder.

2. Team And Player Provide Encouraging Updates

According to Arizona Republic reporter Nick Piecoro, Carroll described the issue as a “minor hip thing” and emphasized that he does not expect it to sideline him for long. His comments helped ease immediate concerns surrounding the injury. Manager Torey Lovullo later clarified that Carroll is dealing with a left hip flexor tightness. Lovullo also indicated that the organization is not overly concerned about the severity. Reporter Jody Jackson noted that cold weather may have contributed to the discomfort, suggesting the injury could be more related to tightness than structural damage. The team is hopeful that rest and treatment will allow Carroll to recover quickly and return without missing significant time.

3. Lineup Adjustments And Early Season Production

With Carroll unavailable for Thursday’s game, Arizona turned to alternative outfield options including Alek Thomas, Tim Tawa, and Jorge Barrosa to fill the gap. The adjustment reflects the team’s depth planning during early-season rotations. Carroll has been a key offensive contributor so far in 2026, appearing in 12 games and producing a strong start at the plate. His impact has been central to Arizona’s offensive consistency. He enters the game hitting .333 with a .408 on-base percentage, along with 14 hits, two home runs, and 11 RBIs. He also leads Major League Baseball with three triples, highlighting his speed and extra-base threat. While his absence is precautionary, the Diamondbacks will closely monitor his recovery given his importance to both their lineup and overall offensive production.
