Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones offered an encouraging update on his recovery from a torn Achilles, saying he has been medically cleared to participate in all football activities ahead of training camp. The announcement marks a significant milestone in his rehabilitation following the season-ending injury he suffered last December.

Jones sustained the injury during Indianapolis’ Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, abruptly ending what had been one of the strongest seasons of his NFL career. Before the setback, he had emerged as a key reason the Colts established themselves as contenders in the AFC.

Now entering the final stages of his recovery, the veteran quarterback expressed confidence in both his health and his progress. While he acknowledged that rebuilding strength and explosiveness remains an ongoing process, he believes he is moving steadily toward full game readiness.

The Colts are hopeful Jones will be available when they open the 2026 regular season against the Baltimore Ravens. His return would provide stability at quarterback as Indianapolis looks to build on the momentum it generated before injuries disrupted its previous campaign.

1. Jones Reaches Major Recovery Milestone

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Jones shared perhaps his most positive update since suffering the Achilles injury. The 29-year-old revealed that doctors have cleared him to perform every aspect of football activities without restrictions.

Although he emphasized that physical improvement remains a daily objective, Jones said he now feels capable of completing every part of his training program. His focus has shifted from basic rehabilitation toward regaining the explosiveness and overall strength required to compete at the NFL level.

Jones also admitted that the injury remains on his mind during workouts. Like many athletes recovering from a significant setback, he acknowledged there is still a mental component to fully trusting the repaired Achilles before returning to live game action.

Even so, the latest update represents an important step forward. With training camp approaching, the Colts can now prepare under the expectation that their starting quarterback will be available to continue increasing his workload.

2. Injury Interrupted Career-Best Season

Before the Achilles injury ended his campaign, Jones was putting together arguably the finest season of his seven-year NFL career. His performances helped Indianapolis emerge as one of the AFC’s most competitive teams during the first half of the season.

Over 13 games, Jones threw for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing a career-best 68.0 percent of his passes. His efficiency, decision-making, and command of the offense represented noticeable improvements compared to previous years.

At the pace he was playing, Jones appeared on track to establish career highs in several major statistical categories. His consistency gave the Colts confidence that they had found the quarterback capable of leading the offense for the foreseeable future.

The injury not only ended his personal momentum but also significantly affected Indianapolis’ season. Losing a starting quarterback during the stretch run presented a challenge that proved difficult for the team to overcome.

3. Colts Hope for Week 1 Availability

As training camp approaches, Indianapolis remains optimistic that Jones will be fully prepared for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. A healthy return would provide continuity for an offense eager to build on last year’s progress.

Should Jones require additional recovery time, the Colts have alternative options at quarterback. Anthony Richardson remains on the roster, while Riley Leonard also provides depth as the coaching staff evaluates the position heading into the regular season.

Still, Jones is widely expected to lead the offense if he continues progressing without setbacks. His experience, leadership, and productive play before the injury make him the preferred choice to guide Indianapolis into the new season.

The coming weeks will focus on increasing his workload and ensuring his confidence matches his physical recovery. If Jones successfully completes that process, the Colts could enter Week 1 with one of the league’s biggest comeback stories under center and renewed optimism for a successful 2026 campaign.
