The Atlanta Braves are off to a strong start in the 2026 season, and one of the most consistent contributors has not necessarily been producing in the traditional sense at the plate. Instead, catcher Drake Baldwin has carved out a unique early-season impact by finding ways to score runs and help his team win.

Even in games where his bat has not fully come alive, Baldwin has continued to influence outcomes through timely baserunning, situational awareness, and steady offensive presence. That consistency has helped stabilize an Atlanta lineup still searching for full rhythm across its core hitters.

In Thursday’s 17–2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, Baldwin again made his mark despite a quiet day in terms of hits. He still managed to cross home plate twice and drive in a run, underscoring his ability to contribute beyond the box score.

His early-season production has now placed him in rare franchise territory, highlighting just how unusual and productive his start to the year has been.

1. A Rare Place in Franchise History

Baldwin’s streak of scoring in each of Atlanta’s first seven games has already etched his name into the franchise record book. He joins Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Jimmy Collins as the only Braves players since 1900 to accomplish the feat. That statistical company places the young catcher in an elite historical category, even as the season is still in its infancy. The consistency of his run production has stood out as one of the early defining stories for Atlanta. In Thursday’s win, Baldwin reached base in unconventional ways, including a pair of fielder’s choices, yet still found himself crossing home plate twice. His ability to remain productive without relying solely on hits has been a key theme of his start. With another opportunity on Friday, Baldwin has a chance to become the sole holder of the franchise record, further cementing his unexpected early-season narrative.

2. Building on a Strong Rookie Foundation

Baldwin’s breakout in 2025 set the stage for his current role as a rising offensive presence in Atlanta’s lineup. After earning National League Rookie of the Year honors, he entered the new season with heightened expectations and increased responsibility. During his rookie campaign, he posted a strong slash line of .274/.341/.469 with 19 home runs across 124 games, establishing himself as one of the league’s most promising young catchers. That production has carried into 2026 with little sign of regression so far. Early in the current season, Baldwin has already added three home runs and eight RBIs while maintaining a slugging percentage well above .600. The numbers suggest he has not only sustained his breakout but potentially built upon it. For a player still early in his career, the consistency has been especially valuable for a Braves lineup navigating uneven stretches from established stars.

3. Early Momentum for Atlanta’s Lineup

While Atlanta continues to evaluate the form of core players such as Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies, Baldwin has emerged as a steadying force in the lineup. His early production has helped offset inconsistency elsewhere and kept the offense productive through the first week of the season. The Braves’ 5–2 start contrasts sharply with last season’s 0–7 opening stretch, giving the team early confidence and momentum. Baldwin’s ability to consistently score runs has been a central part of that turnaround. Even when not recording hits, his presence on the bases and awareness in situational moments have contributed to sustained offensive pressure. That type of production has proven especially valuable in lopsided victories like Thursday’s win over Arizona. As Atlanta prepares for its next matchup against Diamondbacks pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, Baldwin’s run-scoring streak will again be tested in what has quickly become one of the more intriguing early-season storylines.
