Duke continued its strong start to the 2026 season with a commanding 67-49 victory over Boston College on Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The fourth-ranked Blue Devils improved to 21-1 overall and 9-0 in ACC play, keeping their position atop the conference standings.

From the opening tip, Duke controlled the pace of the game, using a suffocating defense and efficient offense to maintain a comfortable lead throughout. Boston College struggled to find rhythm, shooting just 38% from the field and committing 12 turnovers that Duke converted into 13 points.

Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer praised his team’s effort while also acknowledging the resilience of the Eagles. “I thought our defense was really good overall. There were some ugly moments in the second half, but credit Boston College, they’re really good on defense as well. But I’m really proud of our effort overall,” Scheyer said.

The win highlighted Duke’s depth and defensive intensity, with key contributions from Cameron Boozer, Patrick Ngongba II, Isaiah Evans, and Maliq Brown. Boston College’s Fred Payne provided a lone bright spot with 14 points, but the Eagles were otherwise overwhelmed by Duke’s balanced attack.

1. Duke’s Defensive Dominance

Duke’s defensive performance set the tone early in the game. The Blue Devils held Boston College to a season-low in scoring, consistently contesting shots and forcing turnovers. Their pressure disrupted the Eagles’ offensive flow and limited them to 38% shooting. Cameron Boozer exemplified Duke’s defensive energy, recording five steals while contributing 12 rebounds. His presence on both ends of the floor made it difficult for Boston College to establish any consistent offensive momentum. Patrick Ngongba II added to the defensive effort with nine rebounds and disciplined positioning, while Isaiah Evans and Maliq Brown provided activity and help-side defense that kept the Eagles from capitalizing in transition. The Blue Devils’ ability to convert turnovers into points highlighted their fast-break efficiency. Duke scored 13 points off Boston College’s 12 turnovers, further emphasizing the impact of their defensive pressure.

2. Offensive Leadership and Balanced Scoring

While defense carried Duke, their offense was efficient and well-distributed. Cameron Boozer led the team with 19 points, combining post moves, mid-range jumpers, and transition scoring to keep the Eagles off balance. Ngongba II narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, providing reliable scoring inside and on the boards. The supporting cast, including Evans and Brown, contributed valuable minutes, spacing the floor and keeping Duke’s rotation fresh. Duke’s offensive balance prevented Boston College from focusing on any single threat. The team’s approach allowed multiple players to touch the ball, creating high-percentage shots and exploiting mismatches. Despite Boston College’s effort, they struggled to contain Duke’s physicality and versatility. The Eagles’ lone double-digit scorer, Fred Payne, tallied 14 points but received little support, emphasizing the gap in depth and execution between the teams.

3. Looking Ahead to North Carolina and the ACC

Duke’s victory over Boston College solidifies their standing as one of the top contenders in the ACC and nationally. Their 10-game winning streak reflects both consistency and the ability to execute against defensive-minded teams. Head coach Jon Scheyer, a former Duke standout familiar with tough ACC matchups, praised his team’s resilience while noting areas for improvement. Handling defensive pressure effectively will be crucial as they approach higher-stakes contests. The Blue Devils face a marquee matchup on Saturday against archrival North Carolina at the Dean Smith Center. The game represents a chance to further assert dominance in the ACC and showcase their readiness for postseason play. With depth, defensive intensity, and key contributors like Boozer and Ngongba II, Duke is positioning itself to make a deep tournament run while maintaining an undefeated conference record. Fans will be watching closely to see if the Blue Devils can extend their momentum against their historic rivals.
