The New York Giants are attempting to reset their trajectory after another difficult season, finishing 2025 with a 4-13 record and once again landing at the bottom of the NFC East.
Once a proud franchise with a championship pedigree, New York has now missed the playoffs in 12 of its last 14 seasons, a prolonged stretch that has forced repeated organizational changes and renewed scrutiny of leadership decisions.
In response, the Giants turned to veteran head coach John Harbaugh to stabilize the program, bringing in a proven winner in hopes of restoring consistency and competitiveness.
General manager Joe Schoen, who has faced increasing pressure in recent years, believes the franchise is finally moving in the right direction under the new leadership structure.
1. Organizational Reset Under Harbaugh
The hiring of Harbaugh marked a clear shift in direction for the Giants after the firing of Brian Daboll during the 2025 season and a brief interim stint by Mike Kafka. The franchise made it clear that continuity and experience were priorities. From the outset, Harbaugh’s presence has reshaped the organization’s approach. Schoen noted that early interactions during the hiring process helped establish alignment between coaching and front office philosophies. That alignment extended into key offseason decisions, including free agency, draft planning, and roster evaluation. The organization emphasized communication and collaboration as central pillars of its new structure. For a franchise seeking stability, the early stages of the Harbaugh era have been framed internally as a positive foundation rather than a quick fix.
2. Schoen Backs Cultural Shift
Schoen has publicly expressed confidence in the direction of the franchise, pointing to the months since Harbaugh’s arrival as evidence of progress behind the scenes. He highlighted the coaching search process as the starting point of that shift, describing a strong connection formed early in discussions. That relationship has carried over into day-to-day football operations. According to Schoen, alignment between coaching staff and front office has improved decision-making and streamlined roster construction. He described the collaboration as one of the most productive stretches of his tenure. While results on the field remain the ultimate measure, the organization views the cultural reset as a necessary step toward long-term improvement.
3. Dart Emerges As Franchise Focus
At the center of the Giants’ rebuilding effort is quarterback Jaxson Dart, who showed promise during his first extended opportunity as a starter in 2025. Dart started 12 games and delivered a mix of passing efficiency and mobility, completing 216 of 339 passes for 2,272 yards while recording 15 touchdowns against just five interceptions. His dual-threat ability also added nearly 500 rushing yards and nine scores. His performance provided one of the few consistent bright spots in an otherwise difficult season, giving the organization reason to believe they may have found a long-term answer at quarterback. The Giants are now focused on building a more supportive environment around Dart, with Harbaugh’s staff expected to prioritize structure, protection, and offensive stability as key areas of development.
