Brandon Miller has quickly developed into one of the Charlotte Hornets’ most important players, and the organization appears eager to ensure he remains a central figure in its long-term plans. As the former No. 2 overall pick becomes eligible for a rookie contract extension, conversations between the franchise and his representatives are already underway.

Hornets general manager Jeff Peterson recently confirmed that discussions have taken place, while emphasizing the team’s strong desire to keep Miller in Charlotte well into the future. Although he declined to reveal details of the negotiations, Peterson made it clear that retaining the talented forward remains a top organizational priority.

The timing of those conversations is significant. Charlotte enters a new era after major offseason roster changes, making Miller one of the franchise’s primary building blocks as it continues reshaping its future around a younger core.

Following another season of steady development, Miller has established himself as one of the NBA’s promising young forwards. His continued growth has strengthened the Hornets’ confidence that he can become the face of the franchise for years to come.

1. Hornets Prioritize Their Young Star

With Miller now eligible for a contract extension, Charlotte has wasted little time expressing its intentions. Peterson acknowledged that he has maintained communication with both the player and his representatives regarding a potential long-term agreement.

While avoiding specifics about the negotiations, the general manager repeatedly emphasized that the organization views Miller as an essential part of its future. The Hornets believe he possesses the talent and character needed to lead the team through its next stage of development.

Securing a long-term extension would provide stability for both sides. For Charlotte, it would ensure one of its most valuable young players remains under contract during his prime years, while Miller would gain long-term security with the franchise that selected him near the top of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Although negotiations can often take time, the public comments from the front office leave little doubt about the organization’s overall goal. Charlotte wants Miller to remain a foundational piece as it continues building a competitive roster.

2. Continued Growth Strengthens His Value

Peterson also praised Miller’s development throughout last season, highlighting not only his basketball skills but also his determination to compete despite dealing with injuries. The general manager described the young forward as someone who consistently demonstrated resilience and a commitment to helping the team succeed.

Those qualities complemented Miller’s natural talent. Already recognized for his scoring ability, athleticism, and versatility, he continued expanding his game while becoming an increasingly dependable offensive option for Charlotte.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Miller averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, establishing himself as one of the league’s emerging young scorers. His production reflected significant progress and reinforced the belief that he is capable of developing into an All-Star caliber player.

Beyond the statistics, Charlotte values Miller’s competitive mindset and desire to improve. According to Peterson, his willingness to battle through adversity while continuing to develop has made him an even more valuable member of the organization.

3. A Larger Role Awaits

Miller’s importance to the Hornets has increased dramatically following a series of major offseason changes. With the departures of LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, Charlotte now looks to its young forward to assume an even greater leadership role both on and off the court.

The opportunity presents a new challenge for Miller as he enters his fourth NBA season. Rather than serving as one of several featured players, he is expected to become the centerpiece of a team focused on long-term growth and future playoff aspirations.

For the Hornets, completing a contract extension would reinforce that commitment. Locking up Miller would provide the franchise with a clear foundation around which it can continue adding talent through the draft, free agency, and future roster moves.

As training camp approaches, negotiations are expected to continue, but the message from Charlotte’s front office remains consistent. The organization views Brandon Miller as a cornerstone of its future and hopes to secure his long-term commitment before the next chapter of his career begins.
