The Charlotte Hornets delivered another strong performance Thursday night, defeating the New York Knicks 114-103 at Spectrum Center and halting New York’s seven-game winning streak. It was a result that underscored Charlotte’s growing confidence during a late-season surge.

Although the final score suggested a competitive contest, the Hornets controlled much of the game, building a lead that stretched as high as 21 points. Their ability to dictate tempo and execute offensively proved decisive against a Knicks team known for its resilience.

New York mounted a push in the fourth quarter, attempting to erase the deficit with improved defensive pressure and scoring bursts. Still, Charlotte maintained composure and answered each run to preserve the lead.

The victory extended the Hornets’ own winning streak to five games, further strengthening their case as a dangerous team heading toward the postseason, even as they continue to fight for position in the standings.

1. Fast Start Sets the Tone

Charlotte established control early, playing with a level of energy that immediately put New York on its heels. Their pace, ball movement, and shot-making created separation that the Knicks struggled to overcome. According to Josh Hart, the difference was evident from the outset. He noted that the Hornets played with urgency, describing them as if they were “shot out of a cannon,” while the Knicks lagged behind in key sequences. The Hornets’ ability to push the tempo, led by LaMelo Ball, was particularly impactful. Rather than relying solely on one playmaker, Charlotte deployed multiple ball-handlers, keeping the offense fluid and difficult to defend. Even when New York attempted to regroup, the early deficit forced them into a reactive position. Charlotte’s sustained intensity ensured that the Knicks never fully regained control of the game.

2. Knueppel Shines in Breakout Performance

A major storyline from the game was the standout performance of rookie Kon Knueppel, who delivered one of the most complete outings of his young career. He finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, leading the Hornets across multiple categories. Knueppel’s shooting from beyond the arc was particularly significant. By knocking down six three-pointers, he reached a historic milestone, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to record 250 career three-point field goals. His performance was complemented by strong contributions from Ball, who added 22 points, and Brandon Miller, who chipped in 21. The trio combined for a potent offensive display that kept the Knicks’ defense under constant pressure. Hart acknowledged the impact of both Knueppel and Miller, noting their role in setting the tone and ensuring Charlotte maintained its edge throughout the contest.

3. Knicks Fall Short Despite Late Push

Despite the loss, New York showed flashes of resilience, particularly in the fourth quarter when they attempted to close the gap. Their defensive activity led to turnovers, converting 18 Hornets miscues into 17 points. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 26 points and 13 assists, orchestrating much of their offense and keeping the team within striking distance during key stretches. However, Charlotte’s aggression proved to be the difference. The Hornets attacked the rim consistently and capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 16 of 20 attempts compared to the Knicks’ more limited opportunities. Ultimately, New York’s slower start and inability to match Charlotte’s early intensity proved too much to overcome. The Knicks will now turn their attention to a challenging upcoming matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder as they look to regroup.
