The Phoenix Suns fell short Friday night in a 122–115 loss to the Toronto Raptors, but the performance of guard Jalen Green offered a notable bright spot. The fifth-year scorer delivered another standout outing, continuing a strong stretch that signals he may be regaining form after a season disrupted by injuries.
Green finished the night with a team-high 34 points, leading Phoenix’s offensive effort even as the Raptors pulled away late. His performance followed another impressive showing the previous night, giving him back-to-back 30-point games for the first time during the 2025–26 season.
For a player who has spent much of the year battling hamstring problems, the recent surge is particularly encouraging. Prior to this season, Green had been remarkably durable throughout his career, missing only 21 games across his first four NBA campaigns and none in the previous two seasons.
This year has been very different. Injuries sidelined Green for 48 games earlier in the season, significantly interrupting his rhythm and limiting his availability. Now, however, his recent performances suggest he may be turning a corner at a critical point in the Suns’ playoff push.
1. Green’s Offensive Explosion
Green’s performance against Toronto highlighted the dynamic scoring ability that has long defined his game. The explosive guard shot 13-of-25 from the field while knocking down eight of his 16 attempts from three-point range, demonstrating confidence both inside and beyond the arc. Beyond his scoring output, Green also contributed in several other areas of the game. He added five rebounds, four assists, and a steal, helping Phoenix remain competitive for much of the contest before Toronto gained separation late in the fourth quarter. His efficiency was particularly notable considering the circumstances. The Suns were playing the second game of a back-to-back, a situation that often tests the endurance of players returning from injury. Yet Green showed little sign of physical limitation while logging another high-scoring night. The performance followed an even bigger scoring effort the night before. In a victory over the Indiana Pacers, Green poured in 36 points, giving him consecutive dominant outings that reflect a player rediscovering his offensive rhythm.
2. A Season Shaped by Injuries
While Green’s recent form has been encouraging, the broader context of his season has been defined by the challenges of staying healthy. Hamstring issues sidelined him for extended stretches, forcing the Suns to adjust their lineup and offensive approach multiple times. The injuries represented a stark contrast to the durability Green displayed earlier in his career. Through his first four seasons in the league, he had built a reputation as one of the more reliable players in terms of availability, rarely missing time due to injury. The extended absence this season tested both the player and the organization. Without Green consistently in the lineup, Phoenix had to rely on other scoring options to maintain offensive production while navigating the competitive Western Conference landscape. Now that he appears to be regaining his form, Green’s return could provide a significant boost during the final stretch of the season. Even in Friday’s loss, his offensive output helped offset the absence of key contributors and kept the Suns within striking distance.
3. Suns Face Crucial Stretch in the West
Despite the loss to Toronto, Phoenix remains firmly in the playoff race in the Western Conference. The Suns currently hold a 39–28 record, placing them seventh in the standings as the season approaches its closing weeks. That position carries important implications for the postseason. Sitting seventh would require Phoenix to participate in the play-in tournament, a scenario that could complicate the team’s path to the playoffs despite its strong overall record. The Suns will face an especially demanding stretch in the coming days. Their next matchup is scheduled against the Boston Celtics, one of the league’s top teams and a formidable opponent on both ends of the floor. Following that game, Phoenix will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs. Those matchups represent another set of difficult tests, making the Suns’ ability to maintain momentum—and the continued health of players like Green—especially critical as the season winds down.
