The Denver Nuggets endured a difficult night Friday as a second-half collapse against the New York Knicks was compounded by an injury scare involving star guard Jamal Murray. What began as a competitive contest quickly unraveled after Murray exited with an apparent leg injury late in the first half.
Murray went down while defending a shot attempt by New York forward OG Anunoby. The guard appeared to injure his left leg during the sequence and was unable to leave the court on his own, requiring assistance as he made his way toward the locker room.
The moment drew concern from teammates and fans alike, as Murray has been a central part of Denver’s offensive structure throughout the season. His absence would soon be felt as the game slipped out of reach for the Nuggets.
New York took full advantage of the situation, turning a close matchup into a dominant victory. The Knicks surged after halftime and ultimately handed Denver a decisive 142–103 loss on the Nuggets’ home floor.
1. Injury Halts Murray’s Night
The injury occurred in the closing minutes of the first half during a defensive possession. Murray stepped in to contest Anunoby’s shot but appeared to land awkwardly while attempting to recover on the play. Almost immediately, the Nuggets guard showed visible discomfort in his left leg. He struggled to move off the court and required help from team staff as he made his way toward the tunnel. The scene raised alarm inside the arena, with the Nuggets losing not only momentum but also one of their most important players. Shortly afterward, an update from the team described Murray’s condition as a left ankle sprain, leaving his return to the game uncertain. Before leaving the floor, Murray had contributed solidly during his limited time on the court. He finished with 12 points and three assists while shooting 5-for-10 from the field, continuing the steady offensive production he has provided for much of the season.
2. Knicks Seize Control After Halftime
Up until the injury, the game had been tightly contested. Denver held a narrow 29–27 lead at the end of the first quarter, with both teams trading baskets and maintaining a competitive pace. However, the balance shifted dramatically once Murray left the game. Without their primary ball handler and perimeter creator, the Nuggets struggled to maintain offensive rhythm while their defense also faltered. The Knicks capitalized quickly, building momentum as the game progressed. Their offensive efficiency surged while Denver found it increasingly difficult to keep pace. By the end of regulation, New York had outscored Denver 115–74 across the final three quarters. What began as a close contest ultimately turned into a commanding 39-point victory for the visiting team.
3. Jokic Leads Effort in Tough Loss
Despite the difficult outcome, Nikola Jokic once again carried much of the offensive burden for Denver. The star center delivered an impressive stat line, finishing with 38 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Jokic’s performance kept the Nuggets competitive early in the game, but the team struggled to generate consistent scoring support once Murray left the floor. The loss highlighted how heavily Denver relies on the duo to anchor its offense. Several other Nuggets managed to reach double figures in scoring. Rookie forward DaRon Holmes II added 11 points, while Cameron Johnson contributed 10 points and five assists in the defeat. With the loss, Denver’s record dropped to 39–25, leaving the team in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. They remain ahead of both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns but continue to trail the Houston Rockets and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
