The Denver Nuggets delivered one of their most resilient performances of the season Thursday night, rallying from a significant deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 136-131. What initially looked like a difficult night quickly turned into a statement victory fueled by determination and a late offensive surge.

At one point during the contest, the Nuggets trailed by as many as 20 points, placing them in a challenging position on the road. The circumstances made the situation even more demanding as Denver was playing the second game of a back-to-back, leaving little time to recover physically or mentally.

Despite the unfavorable conditions, the Nuggets found another gear late in the game. A dominant fourth quarter flipped the momentum entirely and allowed Denver to erase the deficit in dramatic fashion.

The comeback highlighted the team’s resilience and competitive mindset, traits that have become increasingly important as the season moves toward its final stretch and playoff positioning grows more critical.

1. Murray Leads the Comeback Charge

The turning point of the game came in the fourth quarter, when Denver dramatically shifted the momentum behind the play of Jamal Murray. The Nuggets outscored San Antonio 34-12 in the final period, transforming what seemed like a certain defeat into an impressive comeback win. Murray emerged as the driving force behind the rally. After a relatively quiet first half, the veteran guard erupted offensively in the latter stages of the game, demonstrating the scoring ability that has defined many of his most memorable performances. His production surged after halftime, as he poured in 30 points during the second half alone. The outburst energized the Nuggets’ offense and gradually closed the gap that San Antonio had built earlier in the night. The defining moment arrived when Murray drilled a step-back three-pointer with less than five minutes remaining, giving Denver its first lead of the game and igniting the final push toward victory.

2. Overcoming Early Struggles

Murray’s late heroics were particularly notable considering his slow start earlier in the contest. In the opening half, he struggled to find his rhythm and finished the first two quarters with just nine points. The Spurs capitalized on Denver’s early difficulties, controlling much of the tempo and building a comfortable lead. Their offense flowed effectively while the Nuggets searched for answers on both ends of the floor. However, Murray’s ability to reset and attack the second half with renewed aggression proved crucial. His scoring burst forced San Antonio’s defense to adjust and opened opportunities for Denver’s supporting players. Down the stretch, Murray also showed composure at the free-throw line. He converted four key free throws in the final moments, sealing the victory and completing one of the most dramatic comebacks of Denver’s season.

3. Resilience Through Adversity

The comeback victory also reflected the broader challenges Denver has faced throughout the year. Injuries have frequently disrupted the team’s lineup, preventing the core group from consistently sharing the floor together. Even in Thursday’s game, the Nuggets were missing key contributor Aaron Gordon, who sat out due to hamstring maintenance. Despite that absence, the team managed to find a way to respond when the game seemed to be slipping away. Murray noted after the game that these types of victories carry special significance. Overcoming adversity on the road, particularly under physically demanding circumstances, can strengthen a team’s identity as the season progresses. With the win, Denver improved to 41-26 and moved into a three-way tie for third place in the Western Conference standings. The Nuggets will now turn their attention to another key matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers as the race for playoff positioning intensifies.
