As the NFL Draft draws nearer, projections are beginning to take shape around top prospects, including former Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. One of the more notable recent evaluations comes from NFL insider Adam Schefter, who has offered insight into where Love could realistically land.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter suggested that while Love is highly regarded, he is unlikely to be selected by teams picking early in the top ten. Specifically, he pointed to the Tennessee Titans at No. 4 and the New York Giants at No. 5 as teams that may look in different directions.
Instead, Schefter identified the Washington Commanders at No. 7 as a more logical destination. He noted that Washington has already invested in its running back group but could still be interested in adding a talent of Love’s caliber.
With the draft approaching, such projections highlight both the uncertainty at the top of the board and the factors teams weigh when balancing roster needs, depth, and long-term potential.
1. Schefter Sees Commanders as Fit at No. 7
Schefter’s assessment centers on the idea that Washington presents a natural landing spot based on draft position and roster composition. At No. 7, the Commanders are in a range where elite talent is often still available. He acknowledged that Love could draw interest from multiple teams, including the Giants, but ultimately suggested that Washington aligns best with where Love might realistically be selected. The combination of need and draft value appears to make the fit more plausible. The Commanders have already added to their running back depth, but Schefter’s comments suggest they could still consider upgrading the position further with a high-end prospect. In a league that increasingly values versatile offensive weapons, adding another dynamic option is not uncommon. While nothing is finalized, Schefter’s projection reflects a broader consensus that Love is a first-round-caliber player whose draft range may settle just outside the very top picks.
2. Giants’ Backfield Depth Influences Decision
The New York Giants present an interesting case in Schefter’s analysis, as they could have an opportunity to select Love at No. 5 but may choose to pass due to existing personnel. Running back Cam Skattebo, a fourth-round pick last year, showed promise during his rookie season before suffering an ankle injury that limited his availability. In eight games, he recorded 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns, while also contributing in the passing game. Despite the injury, Skattebo’s production—totaling over 600 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns—may give the Giants confidence in their current backfield once he returns to full strength. That internal development could reduce the urgency to draft another running back early. However, Love’s résumé may still be difficult to ignore. His combination of production and versatility makes him an attractive option for any team in need of a playmaker, even if roster depth at the position already exists.
3. Love’s College Production Highlights Value
Love’s collegiate career at Notre Dame showcased his ability to contribute as both a runner and a receiver. Over his career, he accumulated 2,882 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns on 433 carries, demonstrating consistent productivity on the ground. In addition to his rushing ability, Love also proved effective in the passing game, recording 594 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 63 receptions. His dual-threat capability adds to his appeal as an adaptable offensive weapon. He played a significant role in Notre Dame’s success during the 2024–2025 season, helping the team reach the College Football Playoff and advance to the national championship game. His performance on a high-profile stage further elevated his draft profile. For teams evaluating offensive talent, Love represents a blend of production, versatility, and big-game experience. If Schefter’s projection proves accurate, Washington could benefit from both his skill set and the opportunity to add another dimension to its offense.
