Veteran guard Jrue Holiday added another achievement to his long NBA résumé Friday night, reaching the 17,000-point mark during the Portland Trail Blazers matchup against the Houston Rockets. The milestone came during a strong all-around performance from the experienced guard, who continues to contribute in his 17th season in the league.

Holiday, playing his first season with Portland, has gradually carved out an important role after missing time earlier in the 2025–26 campaign. Known for his defensive intensity and reliable shooting from the perimeter, the two-time NBA champion has become a steady presence in the Blazers’ rotation.

Against Houston, Holiday logged 37 minutes and delivered an efficient stat line. He finished the game with 20 points, 10 assists, four rebounds, and a steal, providing leadership on both ends of the floor as Portland attempted to keep pace with a surging Rockets squad.

However, despite the individual milestone and strong effort from several players, Portland was unable to secure the win. Houston used a dominant stretch in the middle quarters to pull away and ultimately hand the Blazers a 106–99 defeat.

1. Holiday Reaches a Major Career Milestone

Entering Friday’s game, Holiday sat just shy of a notable career benchmark. With 16,986 career points accumulated over nearly two decades in the NBA, the veteran guard needed only 14 more points to reach the 17,000-point plateau. He reached that mark midway through the third quarter in fitting fashion. Holiday created space on the perimeter and knocked down a step-back three-pointer, pushing his career total beyond the milestone and marking another significant moment in his accomplished career. The achievement highlights the consistency Holiday has maintained since entering the league. Throughout his 17 seasons, he has built a reputation as one of the NBA’s most dependable two-way guards, contributing as a scorer, facilitator, and elite defender. While individual milestones often take a back seat to team success, Holiday’s accomplishment reflects the longevity and productivity that have defined his career. Few players sustain such impact over such a lengthy stretch, and reaching 17,000 points places him among a distinguished group of veteran scorers.

2. Rockets Seize Control After Blazers’ Fast Start

Portland initially looked poised to build momentum early in the game. The Blazers executed well offensively in the opening period, finishing the first quarter with a 34–27 lead after finding success attacking the Rockets’ defense. The momentum shifted dramatically in the second and third quarters. Houston responded with a powerful surge, outscoring Portland 59–39 across those two periods and flipping the game in its favor. During that stretch, the Rockets tightened their defensive pressure while finding rhythm on the offensive end. Portland struggled to maintain its early efficiency, and the scoring drought allowed Houston to build a cushion that proved difficult to overcome. Although the Blazers attempted to mount a comeback late in the fourth quarter, the deficit created during Houston’s dominant middle stretch ultimately proved too large to erase. The Rockets maintained control down the stretch to secure the victory.

3. Balanced Effort for Portland in Defeat

Despite the loss, several Portland players delivered notable performances alongside Holiday. Forward Jerami Grant led the team in scoring with 21 points while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in an active outing. Grant shot 6-of-14 from the field and connected on two of his five three-point attempts. He also converted seven of nine free throws, helping keep the Blazers competitive during stretches when their offense stalled. Rookie center Donovan Clingan contributed a strong interior presence with 18 points and 13 rebounds, recording a double-double that highlighted his growing role in the team’s frontcourt. Meanwhile, forward Toumani Camara added 16 points and six steals, showcasing his defensive instincts. Center Robert Williams III chipped in eight points and eight rebounds, rounding out a balanced effort from Portland’s lineup. Still, the team’s inability to maintain momentum during the middle quarters ultimately overshadowed the individual contributions.
