The New York Knicks continued their dominant postseason run Thursday night with another convincing victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeating Cleveland 109-93 in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden. The win pushed New York ahead 2-0 in the series and extended the team’s playoff winning streak to nine games.

With the Knicks now only two victories away from reaching the NBA Finals, excitement around the franchise continues to grow. New York has looked increasingly confident throughout the postseason, combining defensive intensity, balanced scoring, and strong late-game execution during its impressive stretch of victories.

Still, players inside the locker room are refusing to celebrate too early. Veteran forward Karl-Anthony Towns emphasized after the game that the Knicks remain fully aware of the challenges that still lie ahead despite their strong position in the series.

Towns’ comments reflected a mindset built around caution and focus rather than comfort. While the Knicks have controlled much of the first two games, they also understand that playoff momentum can shift quickly, particularly against a Cleveland team that has already shown resilience earlier in the postseason.

1. Knicks Continue to Control the Series

New York once again demonstrated its ability to take over games during the second half. After a relatively competitive opening stretch, the Knicks gradually separated themselves behind disciplined defense and efficient offensive execution. The Cavaliers struggled to maintain consistency offensively as New York tightened defensively after halftime. Cleveland had difficulty generating quality looks while the Knicks continued to capitalize on transition opportunities and balanced scoring across the lineup. Towns remained an important part of New York’s interior presence throughout the game. His rebounding, spacing, and physicality helped the Knicks maintain control around the basket while also creating additional opportunities for teammates offensively. More importantly, New York continued to show composure in critical moments. Rather than allowing Cleveland to regain momentum during small runs, the Knicks consistently responded with strong defensive possessions and timely scoring that kept the game under control.

2. Towns Emphasizes Discipline Over Celebration

Despite the growing excitement surrounding the Knicks’ postseason success, Towns made it clear after the game that the team is not allowing itself to become distracted by the current situation. The veteran forward repeatedly stressed the importance of focusing entirely on the next matchup. According to Towns, the Knicks do not feel significantly closer to their ultimate goal simply because they now hold a 2-0 lead. Instead, he described the upcoming Game 3 as the most important game of the season and emphasized that satisfaction can quickly become dangerous during the playoffs. That mentality reflects the seriousness with which New York has approached the postseason so far. Throughout the playoffs, the Knicks have consistently maintained intensity regardless of momentum, avoiding the emotional highs and lows that often affect teams during long playoff series. Towns’ comments also underscored the respect New York still has for Cleveland despite the early series results. The Cavaliers remain one of the league’s most talented teams, and the Knicks understand that closing out a conference finals series requires sustained focus and execution.

3. Cavaliers Still Dangerous at Home

One reason the Knicks remain cautious is Cleveland’s ability to respond under pressure earlier in the postseason. The Cavaliers previously recovered from a 2-0 deficit against the Detroit Pistons in the second round, proving they are capable of adjusting and recovering even in difficult circumstances. The series now shifts to Rocket Arena, where Cleveland has typically played with greater energy and confidence throughout the playoffs. The Cavaliers are expected to approach Game 3 with a heightened sense of urgency knowing that a 3-0 deficit has never been overcome in NBA postseason history. For New York, maintaining focus on the road will become critical. The Knicks have performed exceptionally well away from home during this playoff run, but hostile environments and desperate opponents often create entirely different challenges deeper into the postseason. If the Knicks can maintain the disciplined mindset Towns described after Game 2, they may place themselves in an even stronger position moving forward. However, any signs of complacency could quickly allow Cleveland back into the series and dramatically shift the pressure heading into the later games.
