The 2025 Formula 1 season was supposed to be the start of something legendary. Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari red?
It felt like the script practically wrote itself. But reality has a funny way of ignoring the best-laid plans.
After finishing the season a staggering 100 points behind teammate Charles Leclerc, and failing to secure a single Grand Prix win in his debut year with the Scuderia, the critics have been circling. The question on everyone’s lips: Is it time for the seven-time world champion to hang up his helmet?
Well, if you were hoping for a dramatic exit interview, you’re going to be disappointed. Despite the lackluster results and the chatter from the cheap seats, Hamilton isn’t going anywhere just yet.
1. Hamilton’s Ferrari Struggles: Just a Speed Bump?
2025 was a bit of a disaster for Hamilton. Swapping the silver arrows of Mercedes for the prancing horse of Ferrari was a massive gamble. The hope was a return to regular victories, but instead, we saw a season where he failed to score a podium for the first time in his career. To make matters worse, he finished barely ahead of rookie Kimi Antonelli. His morale fluctuated wildly throughout the year, leading to some dejected interviews that fueled the retirement fire. Being the first full-time Ferrari driver to get knocked out in Q1 at three consecutive Grands Prix didn’t exactly help his case, either. But when asked about the naysayers questioning his future, Hamilton didn’t mince words. “I wouldn’t say anything to them. None of them have done what I’ve done, so they’re not even on my level.”
2. The Dream That Keeps Him Going
So, what keeps a driver going when the wins dry up and the car isn’t cooperating? According to Hamilton, it’s not about the stats or the money at this point. It’s about the love of the game. “It’s the love for what you do, it’s the love for racing,” Hamilton explained. “I’ve got amazing support from people around me, my fans. It’s that constant keeping an eye on the dream. I still have a dream that I hold hope in my heart for, and that’s what I work towards.” That “dream,” of course, is that elusive eighth world title. And he’s banking on Ferrari to deliver it. While 2025 was a wash, all eyes are now on the massive regulation changes coming in 2026. New power units, active aerodynamics—it’s a total reset of the playing field. Ferrari shifted their focus to these new regulations way back in April, so if anyone is going to come out swinging, it could be them. Even Leclerc sees it as a “now or never” moment for the team.
3. What Hamilton Won’t Miss About F1
While he’s committed to the track, there are definitely parts of the F1 circus that Hamilton is ready to leave behind. It’s not the speed or the competition—it’s the grind that happens off the tarmac. “I can’t wait to get away from all this,” he confessed, referring to the endless media obligations. “Every week, photoshoots and all that kind of stuff. That’s the thing I look forward to one day, not having to do it all.” Honestly, can you blame him? When you’ve been the face of a sport for nearly two decades, smiling for the camera every weekend probably gets old fast. But for now, the photoshoots continue, because the dream is still alive. Hamilton is betting on himself and Ferrari to turn things around. Whether that gamble pays off in 2026 remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: he’s not letting the critics drive him out of the paddock.
