While Rodriguez initially remained in the game after receiving treatment, the Mariners later removed him as a precaution. The club will now await further medical evaluations before determining whether its star outfielder will miss any time.
1. Scary Play Ends Rodriguez’s Afternoon
The incident occurred when Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel attempted to throw Rodriguez out as the Mariners star advanced toward second base. Instead of reaching its intended target, the throw struck Rodriguez in the back of the helmet.
Despite taking the direct hit, Rodriguez continued running and safely reached third base before trainers quickly came onto the field to examine him. Given the velocity of the throw, which reportedly traveled at more than 78 miles per hour, the Mariners immediately treated the situation with caution.
Following the on-field evaluation, Rodriguez attempted to remain in the contest, suggesting he initially felt capable of continuing. However, Seattle later decided to remove him from the game rather than risk aggravating any potential injury.
