Max Verstappen’s Nürburgring 24 Hours debut continues drawing major attention as the Red Bull superstar experiences one of motorsport’s most demanding endurance events firsthand. While Verstappen has spent years dominating Formula 1, the legendary Nürburgring has presented a completely different challenge centered around patience, traffic management, and long-term consistency.
The event has already reinforced why endurance racing remains one of Verstappen’s growing interests outside Formula 1. Speaking during the Nürburgring 24 Hours weekend, Max Verstappen admitted he was pleased with how the race had unfolded for both himself and the team. The Dutchman explained that during daylight conditions he focused on ‘trying to keep it safe’ while still maintaining competitive pace, adding that the GT3 car had been performing strongly throughout his stint. Verstappen also revealed just how quickly situations can become dangerous around the Nürburgring after narrowly avoiding a major incident on the final lap of one run. According to the Red Bull driver, two cars ahead of him made contact, though he fortunately managed to escape the situation safely without damage. Beyond individual moments on track, Verstappen spoke enthusiastically about the broader endurance racing experience and what separates GT3 competition from Formula 1. He specifically highlighted the shared-team dynamic, the intensity of 24-hour racing, and Nürburgring’s uniquely difficult circuit layout as some of the aspects he enjoys most about endurance events. The four-time Formula 1 world champion also hinted strongly at a possible return for future editions of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. While Verstappen admitted scheduling would ultimately determine whether another appearance becomes possible, he openly acknowledged that he would ‘for sure try’ to come back again after experiencing the event firsthand.

Max Verstappen’s Nürburgring 24 Hours debut may already be turning into something far bigger than a one-time appearance. When asked whether the experience had made him consider returning for future editions of the race, the Red Bull superstar gave a clear indication that endurance racing is becoming an increasingly serious interest for him outside Formula 1.
‘Of course, I will for sure try,’ Verstappen admitted when questioned about a possible comeback next year, though he also clarified that any future participation would still depend heavily on how his Formula 1 calendar develops moving forward.
After running comfortably at the front for most of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Max Verstappen and the 3rd placed Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 team saw their victory hopes collapse in dramatic fashion following a late mechanical failure. Verstappen had delivered several standout stints throughout the race, including a dominant night charge where he aggressively fought through traffic and battled sister-car driver Maro Engel in one of the race’s defining moments. The Dutchman also impressed during changing weather conditions on Sunday morning, extending the team’s lead to more than 30 seconds before handing the car back over.
However, with just over three hours remaining, disaster struck when a broken driveshaft severely damaged the rear-right section of the car during Dani Juncadella’s stint. The team spent hours attempting repairs before eventually returning to complete one final symbolic lap, ultimately finishing unclassified and dropping down the order.

The overall victory eventually went to the sister #80 Mercedes-AMG Team RAVENOL entry driven by Maro Engel, Luca Stolz, Fabian Schiller, and Maxime Martin, while Verstappen’s #3 Winward Racing team was ultimately relegated down the classification after the late driveshaft failure destroyed their victory hopes.
Still, Verstappen made it clear after the race that the heartbreaking finish had not discouraged him from endurance competition moving forward. Following the event, the Dutchman openly confirmed his desire to return to the Nürburgring 24 Hours in the future, determined to eventually claim the victory that slipped away during his highly anticipated debut at the ‘Green Hell.’
