Despite that, members of Portland’s front office were found to have engaged in such contact during the scouting process.
Hansen would eventually declare for the draft and was selected by the Trail Blazers with the 16th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. While the selection itself remains valid, the earlier interaction triggered a league investigation once the details came to light.
2. Blazers’ Response
To their credit, the Trail Blazers did not attempt to hide the issue. In a statement provided after the league’s announcement, the organization confirmed that it had self-reported the violation once it became aware of it. The team also cooperated fully with the NBA during the investigation process.
That level of transparency likely played a role in limiting the severity of the punishment. The Blazers have accepted the league’s findings and have confirmed that they will not appeal the decision. Both executives involved will serve their suspensions without pay, bringing closure to the disciplinary side of the matter.
The two individuals suspended are assistant general managers Sergi Oliva and Mike Schmitz. Oliva has built a reputation in basketball operations through analytical and strategic roles. Before joining Portland in 2022, he worked with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz, contributing to player evaluation and roster construction.
Schmitz, meanwhile, is a well-known figure among NBA fans who closely follow the draft. Before moving into a front office role, he gained prominence as a draft analyst, particularly through his work with DraftExpress and later with ESPN.
