Ohio State Lands 6-Foot-4 Receiver Jordan Donahoo to Bolster Promising 2027 Class

Ohio State continued to build momentum on the recruiting trail by adding another wide receiver to its 2027 class, as Jordan Donahoo announced his commitment to the Buckeyes. The Florida prospect selected Ohio State over Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Georgia Tech, giving the program another important addition for the future.

Although Donahoo is not among the highest-ranked recruits in the class, Ohio State’s coaching staff identified him as a player with significant long-term potential. His combination of size, athleticism, and developmental upside convinced the Buckeyes to make him a priority despite entering his recruitment later than several competing programs.

The commitment also represents another successful recruiting effort for first-year wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton. Since joining Ohio State, Hankton has focused on identifying prospects who fit both the team’s offensive philosophy and long-term player development model.

1. Careful Evaluation Led to Ohio State Offer

Ohio State’s pursuit of Donahoo differed from many traditional recruiting battles. Rather than extending an immediate scholarship offer, the coaching staff spent considerable time evaluating his development before making a final decision. Coach Cortez Hankton personally visited Donahoo’s high school on multiple occasions. During the first visit, poor weather created difficult practice conditions, allowing Hankton to observe how the young receiver handled adversity and maintained focus despite less-than-ideal circumstances. A second evaluation came under much better conditions, giving the coaching staff another opportunity to study Donahoo’s route running, athletic ability, and overall skill set. Following that workout, Ohio State decided he had demonstrated enough potential to earn a scholarship offer. That patient approach left a strong impression on both Donahoo and his family. Rather than simply relying on highlight videos or camp performances, the Buckeyes showed genuine interest in understanding how the receiver performed in different situations before committing to recruiting him.

2. Official Visit Seals the Decision

Before Ohio State entered the picture, Donahoo had already narrowed his list of finalists to Minnesota, Georgia Tech, and Cincinnati. His recruitment appeared close to reaching a conclusion before the Buckeyes became involved. Once Ohio State extended its offer, however, Donahoo chose to delay his announcement. The opportunity to visit one of college football’s premier programs was enough to reopen his recruiting process and carefully consider another destination. His official visit to Columbus from June 19 through June 21 ultimately proved decisive. During the trip, Donahoo and his family met with coaches, toured facilities, and gained a better understanding of the program’s expectations on and off the field. By the conclusion of the visit, the receiver felt confident that Ohio State offered the best combination of coaching, player development, and future opportunity. That experience ultimately led him to announce his commitment to the Buckeyes.

3. Buckeyes Continue Building Strong 2027 Recruiting Class

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing approximately 190 pounds, Donahoo possesses the physical profile that many college programs covet in an outside receiver. While recruiting rankings currently list him as a three-star prospect, Ohio State believes his ceiling extends well beyond his current evaluation. According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, Donahoo is rated as the No. 1,423 overall prospect and the No. 188 wide receiver nationally in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Those rankings suggest he remains somewhat under the national radar, but Ohio State has frequently developed similarly ranked players into major contributors. Donahoo also joins five-star receiver Jamier Brown as part of the Buckeyes’ growing collection of pass-catching talent. His commitment gives Ohio State additional size at the position while providing another developmental prospect who could flourish within the program over the next several seasons. With Donahoo now on board, Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class has reached 17 commitments and remains among the nation’s top groups.
