Olivia Miles announced her arrival in the WNBA in emphatic fashion, delivering a record-setting performance in her debut for the Minnesota Lynx. The No. 2 overall pick of the 2026 draft immediately showed why she was considered one of the most complete prospects in her class.

Facing the Atlanta Dream in Minnesota’s season opener, Miles produced a composed and highly productive 34-minute outing that placed her among rare company in league history. Her impact was felt across scoring, playmaking, and defense from the opening tip.

Despite her individual brilliance, the Lynx were unable to secure a win at home, falling 91-90 in a tightly contested matchup that slipped away late after holding a comfortable halftime lead.

The result highlighted both the promise of Minnesota’s young star and the challenges the team must navigate as it adjusts to a new season.

1. Historic Debut Performance from Miles

Miles wasted no time making her presence felt, finishing with 21 points, eight assists, three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in a well-rounded debut performance. She showcased her versatility on both ends of the floor. She shot 6-of-14 from the field, including a three-pointer, while also converting all eight of her free throw attempts. Her efficiency at the line helped stabilize Minnesota’s offense during key stretches. Beyond the scoring, Miles demonstrated strong court vision and defensive awareness, regularly initiating offense and creating opportunities for teammates while also disrupting Atlanta’s rhythm defensively. Her performance placed her in rare historical company, becoming only the fifth player in WNBA history to record at least 20 points and five assists in her debut game.

2. Lynx Start Strong but Fade Late

Minnesota controlled much of the first half, building a 52-37 lead behind balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure. The Lynx appeared in control entering halftime. However, the momentum shifted significantly after the break, as Atlanta adjusted and increased its offensive efficiency while tightening up defensively. The Dream outscored Minnesota 54-38 over the final 20 minutes of regulation, steadily erasing the deficit and turning the game into a possession-by-possession battle down the stretch. Despite multiple attempts to regain control, the Lynx were unable to re-establish their early rhythm as Atlanta closed the gap and ultimately edged ahead late.

3. Supporting Cast and Early Season Outlook

While Miles led the spotlight, Minnesota received additional contributions from several key players in the loss. Four Lynx players finished in double figures, reflecting a balanced but ultimately insufficient offensive effort. Kayla McBride added 18 points along with three assists, two rebounds, and a steal, providing steady scoring support throughout the game. Courtney Williams contributed 14 points and six rebounds, while Emma Cechova added 12 points and three rebounds, helping maintain Minnesota’s early control. Looking ahead, the Lynx will attempt to regroup quickly as they head on the road to face the Phoenix Mercury in their next contest, aiming to convert early promise into a season-opening victory.
