The Oregon Ducks continued to build momentum on the recruiting trail with the addition of four-star cornerback Josiah Molden, a highly regarded member of the 2027 class who announced his commitment to the program, according to recruiting reports.

Molden, a West Linn standout, is ranked among the nation’s top defensive backs, listed as the No. 27 cornerback and No. 209 overall prospect by 247Sports. His decision adds another high-upside talent to Oregon’s steadily growing future roster.

The Ducks secured his commitment over several major programs, including Ohio State Buckeyes, Washington Huskies, and the Texas Longhorns, all of which were considered serious contenders in his recruitment.

Molden’s pledge also carries personal and program ties, as he comes from a strong football family lineage connected to both Oregon and the broader Pac-12/Big Ten pipeline.

1. Recruiting Win With Strong Family Ties

Molden’s commitment to Oregon is notable not only for his talent level but also for his deep family connection to the program. His father, Alex Molden, was a standout defensive back for the Ducks from 1991 to 1995 before being selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft. Additionally, his brother Elijah Molden played defensive back at Washington, adding to the family’s strong football pedigree across the West Coast. Those connections played a meaningful role in shaping his recruitment process. Oregon’s ability to secure a legacy recruit reinforces its ongoing emphasis on building relationships and continuity within its recruiting strategy. The Ducks have increasingly leaned on long-term connections to secure top regional talent. For Molden, the decision represents both a continuation of family tradition and an opportunity to carve out his own identity within a major college program.

2. Rising Prospect With National Attention

Molden enters college football as one of the more promising defensive backs in the 2027 cycle. His ranking among the top 30 cornerbacks nationally reflects his athletic upside and growing reputation. At West Linn, he has drawn attention for his coverage skills, instincts in zone defense, and ability to compete physically at the line of scrimmage. Those traits made him a priority target for multiple Power Five programs. His recruitment drew interest from national contenders across multiple conferences, with Ohio State, Washington, and Texas all pushing to land him before his commitment to Oregon. Ultimately, Oregon’s consistency in communication and defensive development track record helped separate them in a competitive recruitment process.

3. Oregon’s Expanding 2027 Class

Molden joins an already strong 2027 recruiting class for Oregon, which continues to rank among the more balanced defensive groups nationally. The Ducks are building depth across multiple positions. The class includes edge rushers Rashad Streets and Cameron Pritchett, defensive lineman Zane Rowe, cornerback Ai’King Hall, and running back CaDarius McMiller, forming a defensive core with significant upside. On the offensive side, Oregon has also secured commitments from offensive tackle Avery Michael and linebacker Sam Ngata, adding versatility and depth to the group’s overall profile. With Molden now in the fold, Oregon continues to strengthen its long-term defensive outlook, positioning itself to remain competitive both in the Big Ten and on the national recruiting stage.
