The Dallas Wings created one of the most memorable moments of their season on Saturday night, overcoming a massive fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Chicago Sky 93-92 at College Park Center. The victory marked one of the most dramatic comebacks in franchise history and showcased the growing impact of rookie star Paige Bueckers.
Dallas entered the final quarter facing a 71-57 disadvantage and eventually fell behind by 15 points in the closing period. Despite the difficult situation, the Wings continued to fight, producing their highest-scoring quarter of the season with 36 points to complete the comeback.
Bueckers played a central role in the turnaround, finishing with 19 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. After struggling early in the game, the rookie guard took control when the Wings needed her most and helped lead the team through the pressure-filled final minutes.
Following the game, Bueckers credited the team’s belief and communication for allowing them to stay focused. Rather than searching for a quick turnaround, she explained that Dallas simply concentrated on winning one possession at a time.
1. A Comeback Built On Belief
The Wings’ comeback became one of the most impressive fourth-quarter rallies in team history. According to ESPN Research, Dallas’ 17-point comeback ranked as the third-largest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history. Chicago appeared to have control for most of the night. The Sky built an early advantage, leading 28-16 after the first quarter and maintaining a five-point halftime lead at 43-38. Their offense consistently pressured Dallas and created separation throughout the game. However, the Wings refused to allow the deficit to determine the outcome. Their defensive intensity improved, and their offense became more aggressive as they attacked mismatches and created better scoring opportunities. Bueckers emphasized that the team never lost confidence despite being behind. She said the group continued encouraging one another, focusing on defense, execution, and staying connected throughout the comeback attempt.
2. Bueckers Delivers In The Closing Minutes
Although Bueckers had a difficult start, scoring only seven points in the first half while shooting 2-for-9, she showed why Dallas selected her as one of the franchise’s cornerstone players. Her ability to impact the game increased as the pressure grew. The rookie guard became the driving force behind the late rally, contributing to 10 of the Wings’ 11 points during a critical stretch. Her biggest moment came with less than a minute remaining when Dallas needed a game-changing play. With the Wings trailing 92-87, Bueckers came off a screen and connected on a three-pointer while drawing a foul from Natasha Cloud. She converted the free throw to complete a four-point play, cutting Chicago’s lead to 92-91. The sequence changed the momentum completely. After Dallas forced a turnover on the following possession, Li Yueru drew a foul and made two free throws to give the Wings their first lead of the night at 93-92. Dallas held on from there to secure the victory.
3. Supporting Cast And Season Impact
While Bueckers received much of the attention for her late-game heroics, the comeback was a complete team effort. Jessica Shepard played a major role, finishing with 21 points and eight rebounds while providing consistent production in the second half. Shepard scored 17 of her points after halftime and helped Dallas take advantage of favorable matchups. The Wings also received contributions from Azzi Fudd, who added 13 points, and Arike Ogunbowale, who finished with 12. For Chicago, Kamilla Cardoso led the way with 26 points and nine rebounds. Sydney Taylor added 18 points before fouling out, while Skylar Diggins contributed 14 points and Natasha Cloud finished with 10. Despite controlling much of the game, the Sky were unable to stop Dallas’ late surge. The loss dropped Chicago to 4-11 and extended its losing streak to five games, while the Wings improved to 10-6 and matched their win total from the previous season.
