The Las Vegas Raiders are continuing to shape their offensive backfield around rookie centerpiece Ashton Jeanty, but the organization is also evaluating experienced options to support its young star. One of those possibilities is veteran running back Najee Harris, who is scheduled for a free-agent visit with the team.

Harris’ visit comes as part of a broader league-wide interest, with the Seattle Seahawks also recently hosting the former Pro Bowl back. His availability has drawn attention from multiple teams seeking experienced depth in the backfield.

The running back market for Harris follows a challenging year in which he briefly joined the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year deal before suffering a torn Achilles that limited his 2025 season to just three games.

As he works his way back into free agency discussions, Harris’ next landing spot will depend on both his health and how teams project his role in evolving offensive systems.

1. Raiders Explore Depth Behind Jeanty

The Raiders’ interest in Harris is driven in part by their desire to reinforce depth behind Jeanty, who is expected to serve as the focal point of the team’s rushing attack. While Jeanty is viewed as the long-term solution, the team is still searching for a reliable backup. At present, Las Vegas has leaned on younger, less experienced options such as Dylan Laube and Chris Collier in reserve roles. However, neither has established consistent production in limited opportunities. Laube recorded minimal yardage on limited carries last season, while Collier did not register any rushing attempts. Those numbers have underscored the need for a more proven veteran presence in the rotation. Adding a player like Harris would give the Raiders a more balanced backfield structure, particularly in situations where Jeanty needs rest or injury insurance becomes necessary.

2. Harris’ Track Record and Recovery Comeback

Harris brings a strong résumé built during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he quickly established himself as a dependable every-down back. He surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in each of his four seasons with the franchise. In addition to his consistency on the ground, Harris also proved to be a reliable scoring option, finishing his Steelers tenure with at least six touchdowns in every season. His overall production included more than 4,000 rushing yards and 28 total touchdowns. His most recent stop with the Chargers was cut short after just three games due to a torn Achilles, raising questions about his recovery timeline and long-term durability. Despite the setback, Harris’ decision to begin visiting teams signals that he is making progress in his rehabilitation and preparing for a return to full participation.

3. Role Projection and Market Competition

If Harris were to sign with the Raiders, his role would likely be significantly different from his earlier years as a feature back. Instead, he would operate primarily as a backup and situational contributor behind Jeanty. That reduced workload could appeal to both sides, offering Harris a chance to rebuild value while providing the Raiders with a dependable veteran presence in the rotation. Competition for his services remains a factor, however, with multiple teams evaluating whether his experience and physical running style fit their offensive schemes. His visit to Seattle indicates that the market is still developing. Ultimately, Harris’ decision may come down to opportunity, fit, and the chance to reestablish himself in a system that maximizes his strengths without requiring a heavy workload.
