The Golden State Warriors will have to continue pushing through a critical portion of the season without their most important player. On Wednesday, the team announced that Stephen Curry will miss at least another 10 days as he recovers from right knee patellofemoral pain syndrome and bone bruising.

Curry has been sidelined since Jan. 30, when he exited a loss to the Detroit Pistons with knee soreness after playing through discomfort for several games. Although medical scans have not revealed structural damage, the recovery process has proven slower than expected, forcing the Warriors to take a cautious approach.

The prolonged absence arrives at a delicate time for Golden State, which is attempting to stay in contention in the tightly packed Western Conference standings. With fewer than 15 games remaining in the regular season, every result could shape the playoff picture.

One of the more intriguing storylines of the Warriors’ season has been the presence of two Curry brothers on the same roster. Yet despite the anticipation surrounding the pairing, Stephen and Seth Curry have still not shared the floor together. For Golden State, the challenge now is twofold: remain competitive without their franchise star while hoping his recovery timeline aligns with the team’s push toward the postseason.

1. The Curry Brothers’ Long-Awaited Warriors Moment Delayed

Golden State initially signed Seth before the start of the regular season in October. Although he was briefly waived, the team brought him back in December, creating the possibility of a unique family moment in which the brothers would finally play alongside one another at the NBA level. That moment has been repeatedly postponed due to injuries on both sides. Seth has been battling sciatica throughout the season, limiting him to just three appearances. His limited availability has prevented the Warriors from fully integrating him into the rotation. Stephen’s knee injury has only compounded the situation. The elder Curry has been sidelined since late January, meaning that whenever Seth has been available, his brother has been unavailable, and vice versa. Stephen acknowledged the frustration when speaking about the missed opportunity. He described it as “very disappointing,” noting that injuries have robbed the brothers of the chance to share meaningful moments on the court together. While speaking to the journalists, Curry [said](https://x.com/jinthirty/status/2031769255474287094?s=46" target="_blank" rel=“noopener), “It’s been very disappointing because injuries have kind of robbed us of some moments so far, but I think all of our energy is towards finishing the year strong. It’s on me now to get back. Seth’s been working relentlessly over the last couple of months to get back, and you saw the work pay off. Now it’s my turn, hopefully it won’t be too long and #30 and #31 will be out there.”

2. Warriors Extend Stephen Curry’s Recovery Timeline

Curry is currently dealing with a condition that causes pain around the kneecap and is often aggravated by repeated stress or overuse. Unlike a clean tear or fracture with a defined timetable, this type of injury often requires patience and careful monitoring. In addition, the presence of bone bruising in his right knee has slowed the recovery timeline, even though multiple MRI scans have confirmed that there is no structural damage to the joint. The absence of structural damage is encouraging in the long term, but bone bruises can be unpredictable in how long they take to heal. Players often experience lingering discomfort when pushing off or changing direction, movements that are central to Curry’s game, which relies heavily on rapid acceleration and off-ball movement. Golden State has opted to proceed cautiously, resisting any temptation to rush its two-time MVP back onto the floor. The team has allowed Curry to begin light individual workouts on the court, with the expectation that the intensity of those sessions will gradually increase if he continues to make progress. For fans and for the Curry family, the hope remains that both players will be healthy at the same time before the season ends. At the same time, the team understands that rushing Curry back would carry significant risk. Preserving his long-term health may ultimately matter more than squeezing out a few extra regular-season wins.

3. Golden State’s Playoff Hopes Tested Without Their Franchise Star

The Warriors’ performance without Curry underscores just how central he remains to their identity. Golden State has struggled to replicate its usual offensive rhythm during his absence, posting a 9–17 record in games he has missed this season. Since Curry’s last appearance on Jan. 30, the team has gone 5–10, a stretch that has kept them hovering around the middle of the Western Conference play-in race. The Warriors currently sit just above the cut line, leaving little margin for error as the regular season enters its final weeks. Without Curry orchestrating the offense, Golden State has had to rely more heavily on veterans such as Draymond Green and Klay Thompson to shoulder the offensive burden. While both players remain capable contributors, neither provides the same gravity that Curry brings with his perimeter shooting and constant off-ball movement. Opposing defenses have taken advantage of that absence, frequently collapsing into the paint and daring the Warriors’ supporting cast to beat them from the outside. The result has been an offense that lacks the spacing and unpredictability that once made Golden State one of the league’s most feared attacks. Even so, the Warriors remain within striking distance of a postseason berth. The Western Conference standings remain tightly packed. A brief winning streak could dramatically alter the team’s outlook. But without Curry, every game seems like a balancing act between survival and sustainability.
