Shedeur Sanders has officially completed his college education, graduating from the University of Colorado-Boulder as part of the Spring Class of 2026. The milestone was marked during the university’s commencement ceremony, with Colorado’s football program highlighting his achievement on social media.

The moment closes a significant chapter in Sanders’ football journey, which spanned multiple programs and levels of competition. From his early days as a lightly recruited prospect to becoming a nationally recognized quarterback, his college career evolved far beyond initial expectations.

Sanders’ path took him through Jackson State under head coach Deion Sanders, where he quickly established himself as one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country. He later transitioned to Colorado, continuing his development at the Power Five level.

Now in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Sanders balances his academic accomplishment with the early stages of a professional career still very much in progress.

1. College Career Defined by Growth and Production

Shedeur Sanders began his collegiate career as a three-star recruit, but his production soon elevated him into one of the most efficient quarterbacks in college football. His time at Jackson State marked the beginning of that rise. Across two seasons with the Tigers, Sanders posted impressive numbers, throwing for 6,983 yards and 70 touchdowns while completing 616 of 901 passes. He also limited turnovers, recording just 14 interceptions during that span. His success at Jackson State positioned him for a move to Colorado, where he transitioned to higher-level competition in the Pac-12 and later the Big 12. The jump brought new challenges but also new opportunities to showcase his development. By the time he arrived in Boulder, Sanders had already built a reputation as a precise and productive passer capable of adapting to different offensive systems.

2. Impact at Colorado and Program Growth

Sanders made an immediate impact in his first season at Colorado in 2023, helping stabilize an offense undergoing transition. He threw for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns while completing 69 percent of his passes. Despite his individual success, Colorado finished the season 4–8, reflecting broader team challenges beyond the quarterback position. Still, Sanders’ performance provided a foundation for future improvement. The following season marked a significant step forward for both Sanders and the program. Colorado improved to a 9–4 record, with Sanders continuing to play a central role in the team’s offensive production. He finished that year with 3,222 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and a 73 percent completion rate, while reducing his interception total to seven, highlighting improved efficiency and decision-making.

3. Transition to the NFL and Browns Competition

Sanders entered the NFL after a surprising slide in the 2025 Draft, ultimately being selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. The selection placed him in a competitive quarterback room from the outset. In his rookie season, Sanders participated in a three-way quarterback battle involving Dillon Gabriel and veteran Deshaun Watson. The competition shaped much of his early professional experience. He eventually earned starting opportunities, appearing in eight games and throwing for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His 56.6 percent completion rate reflected both growing pains and flashes of potential. As he moves forward, Sanders now enters a critical phase of his career, aiming to solidify his role within the Browns’ quarterback depth chart while building on both his college success and early NFL experience.
