The Chicago Sky continued a difficult start to their 2026 campaign with a loss to the Toronto Tempo on Sunday evening, extending a stretch of inconsistent performances early in the season. The defeat added to growing pressure on a team still trying to find rhythm on both ends of the floor.

Skylar Diggins, in her first season with Chicago, remains one of the team’s primary playmakers and focal points on offense. However, the veteran guard has not been able to fully steady the Sky through their early struggles.

The loss to the Tempo, an expansion team in their inaugural season, underscored ongoing issues for Chicago, particularly in offensive execution and late-game consistency. Those concerns were evident in the postgame atmosphere.

Following the game, Diggins gave a candid and blunt response when asked about the Sky’s half-court offense, signaling clear frustration with the team’s current direction.

1. Diggins Redirects Offensive Questions

The moment of frustration came during a postgame media exchange when Diggins was asked about Chicago’s half-court offensive execution. Rather than offering an in-depth tactical answer, she immediately deferred the question. “That’s a Tyler Marsh question. Ask Tyler,” Diggins said, referencing Sky head coach Tyler Marsh. Her response reflected the broader challenges the Sky have faced in organizing their offense consistently, especially in structured half-court sets where execution has often broken down. While Diggins remains a leader on the floor, her reaction suggested growing impatience with recurring issues that have yet to be resolved.

2. Chicago’s Inconsistency Continues to Show

The Sky’s loss to Toronto added to a season marked by uneven performances, with the team struggling to maintain consistency from game to game. Despite flashes of competitiveness, results have not followed regularly. Chicago has relied heavily on its core players, but offensive balance has been inconsistent. Against the Tempo, the Sky again struggled to generate sustained scoring runs. Diggins has been central to the offense, but the team has often lacked secondary creation and reliable spacing around her. That has made it difficult to sustain efficiency over four quarters. The loss to an expansion team highlighted those issues further, raising questions about adjustments needed moving forward.

3. Balanced Scoring Not Enough in Defeat

Despite the loss, Chicago did see several solid individual performances. Azura Stevens led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds on efficient shooting, continuing her strong interior presence. Gabriela Jaquez added 11 points while Jacy Sheldon contributed 10 points, helping provide some secondary scoring support. Diggins finished with seven points and three assists in a quieter offensive outing. Still, the collective effort was not enough to overcome Toronto, as Chicago dropped to a 4-7 record on the season. The Sky now sit near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, with only one team behind them. As the season continues, Chicago will look to stabilize its offensive identity and translate individual contributions into more consistent team results.
