South Carolina football strengthened its 2027 recruiting class on Friday with the commitment of tight end Judah Lancaster, a versatile pass-catcher who becomes the latest addition to a rapidly growing group for head coach Shane Beamer. His decision adds another key piece to the Gamecocks’ long-term offensive planning.
Lancaster, a 6-foot-4 tight end from Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, selected South Carolina over a competitive list of Power Four programs that included UCLA, Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Maryland. His recruitment reflected steady national interest as his profile rose over the past year.
He is rated as a three-star prospect and ranks among the top tight ends in the 2027 class according to major recruiting services. Evaluations place him inside the national top-800 overall prospects, with some rankings listing him among the top 40 tight ends nationally.
His commitment continues a recent surge for South Carolina on the recruiting trail, as the program builds depth across multiple positions ahead of future seasons.
1. Multi-State Journey Shapes Development
Lancaster’s football path has taken him across several states, beginning in Ohio, where he lived for 12 years before relocating to Arizona. His early development there laid the foundation for his position growth and athletic progression. He began playing high school football in Arizona as a freshman before later transferring to IMG Academy in Florida, a program known for producing college-ready talent. That move exposed him to higher-level competition and advanced training environments. At IMG, Lancaster refined both his receiving ability and blocking technique, developing into a more complete tight end prospect. Coaches have pointed to his physical frame and versatility as key strengths. His multi-state background has contributed to a well-rounded skill set, helping him adjust quickly to different systems and levels of competition.
2. Recruiting Momentum Builds at South Carolina
Lancaster’s recruitment gained traction following multiple visits to Columbia, including an official visit that placed him among a large group of prospects on campus. He also attended spring practice earlier in the year, giving him an extended look at the program. South Carolina tight ends coach and running game coordinator Shawn Elliott played a central role in his recruitment, working closely with head coach Shane Beamer throughout the process. Their pitch emphasized development and early opportunity within the offense. Sources indicated that Lancaster’s commitment had been trending in South Carolina’s favor since mid-April, following his April 19 visit. The relationship built during that stretch ultimately proved decisive. He is scheduled to join the program in January, allowing him to participate in offseason workouts ahead of his first full season.
3. Gamecocks Continue 2027 Class Expansion
Lancaster becomes the sixth commitment in South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class, which has quickly taken shape over recent weeks. His pledge also marks the fourth commitment the program has secured within a single week. He joins a group that includes four-star safety Jernard Albright, three-star quarterback Jerry Meyer III, offensive lineman Will Endicott, four-star defensive lineman John Archer, and wide receiver DJ Huggins. The class now features a balanced mix of offensive and defensive talent, with Lancaster and Huggins representing two early pass-catching options in the future offense. Recruiting momentum has become a defining storyline for South Carolina’s 2027 cycle, as the program continues to build depth and long-term stability across multiple positions.
