Spain continued its remarkable run on the international stage Tuesday, defeating France 2-0 in the FIFA World Cup semifinals and securing a place in the tournament’s final. The victory extended La Roja’s impressive unbeaten streak under manager Luis de la Fuente and reaffirmed their status as one of the world’s premier footballing nations.

For teenage star Lamine Yamal, the occasion carried added significance. Having recently celebrated his 19th birthday, the Barcelona winger delivered one of his most influential performances of the tournament. Though his goal tally has been modest by his lofty standards, his impact against France was impossible to ignore.

Spain entered the match aware of the challenge ahead. France had reached each of the previous two World Cup finals and boasted an attack featuring Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Michael Olise. Yet from the opening whistle, Spain appeared composed, disciplined, and confident in possession.

By the final whistle in Dallas, Spain had earned a deserved victory through goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro. More importantly, they had taken another step toward lifting their second World Cup trophy and their first since 2010.

1. Yamal Takes Center Stage

Lamine Yamal may not have found the back of the net, but he was arguably the game’s most influential player. Stationed on the right flank, he repeatedly tested France’s defense with his pace, close control, and willingness to attack defenders one-on-one.

His biggest contribution came in the 22nd minute when he surged into the penalty area and drew a foul from Lucas Digne. The French defender struggled to contain the teenager throughout the evening, and his mistimed challenge handed Spain a golden opportunity to open the scoring.

Oyarzabal calmly converted from the penalty spot, giving Spain an early advantage and placing immediate pressure on France. From there, Yamal continued to dictate the tempo whenever Spain transitioned into attack, creating dangerous moments with nearly every touch.

The performance served as another reminder of Yamal’s immense potential. At just 19 years old, he has already become a key figure for both club and country, and his display against one of the tournament favorites suggested that the biggest moments rarely intimidate him.

2. Spain’s Complete Team Performance

While Yamal captured headlines, Spain’s victory was built on a collective effort. Midfielders Rodri and Dani Olmo controlled possession throughout the contest, limiting France’s opportunities to establish any sustained rhythm in the center of the pitch.

Spain’s second goal showcased the team’s technical quality. In the second half, Olmo delivered an inventive flick that released Pedro Porro into space. The defender made no mistake, calmly finishing to double Spain’s lead and effectively put the match beyond France’s reach.

Defensively, Spain remained equally impressive. Every clearance, interception, and block was met with visible enthusiasm, reflecting a team fully committed to its identity. France’s star-studded attack rarely found space in dangerous areas, with Mbappe and Dembele often isolated and forced to create chances on their own.

Even when Yamal had a second-half effort ruled out for offside, Spain never appeared rattled. Their discipline and confidence remained evident throughout the match, underscoring why they have emerged as one of the tournament’s most balanced teams.

3. Eyes Turn Toward the Final

France’s elimination marked a disappointing end to a campaign that had carried significant expectations. Didier Deschamps’ side entered the tournament among the favorites, but they struggled to find cohesion when it mattered most.

Several attacking players endured difficult evenings. Michael Olise was unable to influence the game consistently, while Bradley Barcola’s early opportunities failed to produce results. France’s midfield also found itself second best for long stretches against Spain’s organized approach.

For Spain, however, the focus quickly shifted to the final. Awaiting the winner of the England-Argentina semifinal, de la Fuente’s squad will enter the championship match brimming with confidence. Their ability to blend experienced leaders with emerging stars has become one of the defining stories of the tournament.

As for Yamal, the timing could hardly have been better. Days after celebrating his birthday, he helped guide his country to the brink of football immortality. Regardless of the opponent awaiting Spain in the final, Tuesday’s performance demonstrated that this young generation is ready for the grandest stage the sport has to offer.
