The Western Conference Finals shifted dramatically on Sunday night as the San Antonio Spurs delivered their most complete performance of the postseason. Facing the defending NBA champions in a crucial Game 4, the Spurs controlled the matchup from start to finish and defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 at Frost Bank Center.

San Antonio entered the game needing a response after falling behind in the series, and the team answered with energy on both ends of the floor. The Spurs established an early lead, maintained defensive pressure throughout the night, and never allowed Oklahoma City to build momentum.

Victor Wembanyama once again proved to be the centerpiece of San Antonio’s success. The young star dominated offensively while also impacting the game defensively, helping the Spurs neutralize one of the league’s most explosive teams.

With the victory, the series is now tied 2-2 heading back to Oklahoma City for Game 5. Momentum has shifted once more in what has quickly become a highly competitive battle for a spot in the NBA Finals.

1. Wembanyama Leads the Charge

Victor Wembanyama delivered another standout playoff performance and looked fully in control from the opening tip. The Spurs forward finished with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals while shooting 11-for-22 from the field in just 31 minutes. Beyond the numbers, Wembanyama dictated the pace of the game with his versatility. He attacked inside, stretched the defense from the perimeter, and disrupted Oklahoma City’s offensive rhythm whenever the Thunder attempted to challenge the paint. One of the defining moments of the night came just before halftime when Wembanyama connected on a dramatic halfcourt buzzer-beater. The shot energized the home crowd and extended San Antonio’s lead to 12 entering the break, further increasing pressure on the Thunder. The performance continued Wembanyama’s rapid rise as one of the league’s most influential postseason players. In a series filled with star power, he has consistently been the most impactful player on the floor for stretches, and Game 4 was another reminder of his growing dominance.

2. Spurs Defense Changes the Series

While Wembanyama’s offense drew attention, San Antonio’s defense ultimately decided the game. The Spurs overwhelmed Oklahoma City with active hands, physical interior defense, and constant pressure on ball handlers throughout the contest. The Thunder struggled to find offensive consistency, shooting just 33 percent from the field. San Antonio also forced 20 turnovers, turning those mistakes into 25 points and preventing Oklahoma City from establishing any offensive rhythm. The Spurs controlled the paint as well, outscoring the Thunder 50-36 in close-range scoring opportunities. San Antonio consistently attacked the rim while limiting second-chance opportunities and transition scoring chances for Oklahoma City. Even the Spurs’ bench contributed defensively. Veteran big man Kelly Olynyk scored only three points, but he recorded three steals in limited minutes and helped maintain San Antonio’s defensive intensity whenever he was on the floor. The collective effort reflected the disciplined approach the Spurs needed to even the series.

3. Thunder Search for Answers Before Game 5

For Oklahoma City, Game 4 represented one of its toughest outings of the postseason. The Thunder never recovered after San Antonio’s fast start and struggled to generate momentum offensively for most of the night. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 19 points, but the Spurs consistently forced difficult shots and limited his ability to control the game. The Thunder star faced heavy defensive attention and rarely found clean opportunities in transition. The opening quarter set the tone for the evening. San Antonio outscored Oklahoma City 28-19 in the first period and steadily increased the pressure from there. Each Thunder comeback attempt was answered quickly by the Spurs, whether through defensive stops or timely scoring runs. Now the series turns back to Paycom Center for a pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday night. With the matchup tied at two games each, both teams understand the importance of regaining control. The Thunder will look to respond on their home floor, while the Spurs aim to carry the confidence and defensive intensity from Game 4 into the final stretch of the series.
