The 2026 NBA Finals have delivered unforgettable moments on the court, but an incident involving fans after Game 4 has shifted part of the conversation away from basketball. Following New York’s historic comeback victory over the San Antonio Spurs, reports and videos surfaced showing objects being thrown in the direction of Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

The Knicks entered the night facing a significant challenge after falling behind by 29 points. However, they responded with one of the most remarkable rallies in Finals history, storming back to secure a victory and take a commanding 3-1 lead in the championship series.

With the win, New York moved within one game of capturing its first NBA title since 1973. The result sparked celebrations throughout the city, as fans embraced the possibility of witnessing a long-awaited championship.

While the overwhelming majority of supporters celebrated responsibly, videos circulating online appeared to show some individuals throwing objects toward Wembanyama after the game. The incident quickly drew criticism from around the basketball world, including a strong reaction from former Spurs player Stephen Jackson.

1. Jackson Responds to Fan Behavior

Jackson did not hold back when sharing his opinion about the incident. The former NBA veteran, known throughout his playing career for his toughness and willingness to speak his mind, expressed frustration after seeing footage of the alleged behavior. Taking to social media, Jackson delivered a blunt message directed at those involved. He suggested that similar actions against players during his era would have been met with a much different response from those on the court. His comments quickly gained attention among NBA fans, adding another layer of discussion to an already intense Finals series. While Jackson’s language reflected his passionate personality, his central message focused on respect for players regardless of team allegiance. Jackson has long maintained strong ties to the Spurs organization. He spent parts of four seasons with San Antonio across two separate stints and was a member of the franchise’s 2003 championship team. His connection to the organization likely made the incident involving Wembanyama particularly personal.

2. Wembanyama Continues To Lead Spurs

Despite the controversy, Wembanyama remains focused on helping San Antonio extend its season. The young superstar has been the Spurs’ most productive player throughout the Finals and continues to carry a significant portion of the team’s workload. The French standout has consistently delivered on both ends of the floor. His combination of scoring, rebounding, rim protection, and playmaking has made him one of the most influential players in the series despite San Antonio’s difficult position. Through four Finals games, Wembanyama has averaged 27.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Those numbers highlight the all-around impact he has provided while facing constant defensive attention from New York. The Spurs have also received support from several young contributors. Stephon Castle has averaged 16.8 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Dylan Harper has added 16.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. Together, they have helped keep San Antonio competitive throughout much of the series.

3. Spurs Face Elimination Pressure

San Antonio entered the NBA Finals with considerable momentum after an impressive playoff run through the Western Conference. Their confidence was particularly high after eliminating the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in a hard-fought seven-game series. However, the Knicks have presented a challenge unlike any the Spurs faced earlier in the postseason. New York seized control of the Finals by winning the first two games on San Antonio’s home floor, immediately putting the Spurs in a difficult position. The situation became even more challenging after Game 4. What appeared to be a likely Spurs victory turned into a devastating defeat as New York erased a massive deficit and claimed a win that shifted the championship firmly in its favor. Now trailing 3-1, San Antonio must respond quickly to keep its title hopes alive. A victory in Game 5 would force the series back to New York and provide the Spurs with a chance to build momentum. Another loss, however, would end their season and hand the Knicks a long-awaited championship celebration.
