SAN ANTONIO — Stephon Castle controlled the game from start to finish Saturday night, turning a regular-season matchup into a personal showcase. With poise, pace and precision, the young guard orchestrated the San Antonio Spurs’ offense in a commanding 138-125 win over the Dallas Mavericks at Frost Bank Center.

Castle posted a career-high 40 points while adding 12 rebounds and 12 assists, recording just the second triple-double of his career. His performance placed him in rare company within franchise history and underscored his rapid rise as one of the Spurs’ foundational pieces.

From the opening minutes, San Antonio dictated tempo, spacing the floor and attacking the paint with confidence. By halftime, the Spurs had built a comfortable cushion and showed little sign of slowing down.

For Dallas, the loss extended a difficult stretch and highlighted the gap between the teams on this night, as the Mavericks struggled to match San Antonio’s rhythm and depth.

1. Castle’s Breakout Performance

Castle’s stat line alone told the story, but the efficiency made it even more striking. He connected on 15 of 19 field-goal attempts, knocked down three of five from beyond the arc and added seven free throws, scoring from virtually every spot on the floor. He wasn’t simply hunting shots, either. Castle balanced scoring with playmaking, repeatedly collapsing the defense and finding open teammates for easy looks. His 12 assists reflected a command of the offense that kept Dallas scrambling. Defensively, he remained active, collecting three steals and a block while logging 32 minutes. The all-around effort placed him among a small group of players in league history to post a 40-point triple-double while shooting better than 75 percent from the field. The exclamation point came midway through the fourth quarter when Castle followed a miss with a soaring windmill dunk, pushing the Spurs’ lead past 20 points and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

2. Spurs Set the Tone Early

San Antonio’s dominance wasn’t limited to one player. The Spurs seized control early, building an 11-point lead after the first quarter behind crisp ball movement and efficient scoring. By halftime, that advantage had grown to 81-67, marking the team’s highest-scoring half of the season. The Spurs consistently found quality shots, whether in transition or in the paint, and shot 55.6 percent from the field overall. Devin Vassell added 17 points, while Victor Wembanyama chipped in a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. De’Aaron Fox contributed 15, and reserves Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant each scored 11, highlighting the team’s depth. The balanced attack allowed San Antonio to maintain pressure throughout the night, turning the game into a fast-paced, high-efficiency contest that Dallas struggled to keep within reach.

3. Mavericks Continue to Slide

On the other side, Dallas searched for answers but couldn’t string together enough stops to mount a serious comeback. Klay Thompson led the Mavericks with 19 points, though much of his production came while chasing the scoreboard. Marvin Bagley III, recently acquired in a separate trade, provided a bright spot with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Brandon Williams added 18. Still, the overall effort lacked the consistency needed to threaten San Antonio’s lead. Rookie Cooper Flagg, who had been on a run of 30-point performances, was held to 14 points and did not play in the fourth quarter. His quiet night mirrored the team’s broader struggles. The defeat marked Dallas’ seventh straight loss and completed a season-series sweep by the Spurs, deepening concerns as the schedule tightens.
