The former lottery pick has opened the tournament with back-to-back double-doubles, displaying both his physical presence in the paint and a growing offensive skill set.
While his production has attracted praise from coaches and fans alike, Maluach has taken a more measured approach to evaluating his performances. Rather than focusing on the points and rebounds, the 7-foot-1 center believes his biggest improvements must come in the less glamorous parts of the game.
Following another strong outing in Las Vegas, Maluach spoke about the lessons he has learned during Summer League competition. He acknowledged that every game presents new challenges and that his development remains a work in progress as he prepares for his second NBA season.
His self-assessment reflects the mindset the Suns hope to see from one of their most promising young prospects. Although his talent has never been in question, Phoenix believes continued growth in decision-making and ball handling could accelerate his rise as an important piece of the franchise’s future.
1. Production Continues to Impress
Maluach made an immediate impact in Phoenix’s opening Summer League games with his consistent play on both ends of the floor. He began the tournament by recording 19 points and 11 rebounds against the Portland Trail Blazers before following that performance with 15 points and 15 rebounds against the New Orleans Pelicans.
His ability to control the boards has been expected given his size and athleticism, but his offensive versatility has become one of the biggest storylines. Maluach has shown increased confidence shooting from the perimeter, converting five of his 11 attempts from three-point range over his first two contests.
That outside shooting could become a valuable addition to his game if it carries into the regular season. Stretching the floor while maintaining his presence around the basket would make him a more difficult matchup and provide Phoenix with greater lineup flexibility.
Beyond the statistics, Maluach has looked more comfortable operating within the offense. His confidence has grown noticeably compared to his rookie campaign, suggesting the developmental work he completed over the past year is beginning to produce results.
