The Oklahoma City Thunder received encouraging news regarding forward Jalen Williams as he continues recovering from a hamstring strain that has sidelined him for several weeks. The 24-year-old remains a key contributor to Oklahoma City’s lineup, and signs of improvement in his rehabilitation have raised optimism within the organization.
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault recently shared that Williams is “progressing” in his recovery process. The update was reported by Clemente Almanza of OKC Thunder Wire, providing the first clear indication that the versatile forward may be moving closer to a return.
Williams has been out of action since Feb. 11, when he last appeared in a game against the Phoenix Suns. That contest ended in a convincing 136–109 victory for Oklahoma City and featured one of Williams’ most efficient performances of the season.
Since then, the Thunder have continued to maintain their strong position in the Western Conference standings. Still, Williams’ eventual return could add another layer of versatility and scoring to a team that already looks like one of the league’s most balanced contenders.
1. A Strong Performance Before the Injury
Williams’ most recent appearance came during Oklahoma City’s dominant win over the Suns. In that matchup, the forward showcased his all-around offensive efficiency and helped drive the Thunder to one of their most comfortable victories of the season. In just 20 minutes of action, Williams scored 28 points while also contributing five assists and four rebounds. His scoring came with remarkable efficiency, as he converted 11 of his 12 field-goal attempts during the game. He also delivered steady production from the free-throw line, making four of five attempts. From beyond the arc, Williams was equally effective, knocking down both of his three-point shots and stretching the defense when opportunities arose. The performance highlighted the offensive skill set that has made Williams a valuable piece of Oklahoma City’s rotation. His ability to score efficiently while facilitating for teammates continues to make him one of the Thunder’s most versatile players.
2. A Key Contributor in Oklahoma City’s Lineup
Now in his fourth NBA season, Williams has firmly established himself as an important part of the Thunder’s core. When healthy, he provides scoring, playmaking and defensive activity that complement the team’s fast-paced system. Across 26 games this season, Williams has averaged 17.5 points per game while also contributing 5.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds. His stat line reflects his well-rounded role, as he frequently contributes across multiple areas rather than focusing solely on scoring. Defensively, Williams has also made an impact with 1.3 steals per game. His length and anticipation allow him to disrupt passing lanes and generate transition opportunities for Oklahoma City. His shooting efficiency has remained solid throughout the season as well. Williams is converting 47.9 percent of his field-goal attempts, shooting 31.3 percent from three-point range and maintaining an 83.3 percent success rate at the free-throw line while averaging 29 minutes per contest.
3. Thunder Continue Winning Despite Absence
Even without Williams in the lineup, Oklahoma City has continued to thrive. The Thunder currently hold the top position in the Western Conference with an impressive 52–15 record. The team enters its next game riding a seven-game winning streak, demonstrating the depth and cohesion that have defined its season. Several players have stepped into larger roles during Williams’ absence, helping maintain the team’s momentum. Still, his eventual return could further strengthen an already formidable roster. Williams’ versatility as a scorer, facilitator and defender provides head coach Mark Daigneault with another reliable option in both starting and rotational lineups. Oklahoma City will look to extend its winning streak in its next matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game will close out a four-game homestand and offers the Thunder another opportunity to build momentum as the regular season moves closer to the playoffs.
