Stefon Diggs remains one of the most recognizable names available on the NFL free-agent market. Despite a career that includes multiple Pro Bowl appearances and years of elite production, the veteran wide receiver enters the 2026 season searching for a new opportunity following his departure from the New England Patriots.

Diggs’ situation has become increasingly complicated in recent months. In addition to navigating the challenges that accompany free agency at age 32, he has also faced off-field issues that have generated headlines and potentially affected his market around the league.

Even so, several analysts continue to believe the former All-Pro can contribute to an NFL roster. Among them is former quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, who recently suggested that Diggs could be an ideal addition for a team with established leadership and championship aspirations.

Speaking during ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Hasselbeck pointed specifically to the Kansas City Chiefs as a possible landing spot, arguing that the organization possesses the infrastructure necessary to maximize Diggs’ remaining years while managing the expectations that come with a player of his stature.

1. Diggs Still Offers Experience and Production

Although Diggs is no longer in the early stages of his career, his résumé remains impressive. Over the past decade, he has established himself as one of the NFL’s most accomplished receivers, consistently producing at a high level regardless of the system or quarterback.

His route running, ball skills, and competitive nature have long been among his greatest strengths. Even as athletic decline becomes a consideration for veteran players, those traits often allow receivers to remain productive well into their 30s.

The challenge for Diggs now lies in finding the right role. Teams evaluating him must balance his on-field ability against questions surrounding fit, expectations, and long-term value. That calculation becomes especially important for contenders seeking experienced contributors rather than offensive focal points.

According to Hasselbeck, Diggs may no longer need to be the centerpiece of a passing attack to remain effective. Instead, he could thrive as part of a more balanced receiving corps, where his experience and leadership complement younger talent.

2. Why Kansas City Makes Sense

Hasselbeck identified Kansas City as one of the more logical destinations for Diggs, citing the presence of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the stability provided by head coach Andy Reid.

In Hasselbeck’s view, organizations with established leadership are better equipped to integrate veteran personalities. He suggested that Mahomes’ experience and credibility within the locker room would allow the Chiefs to effectively manage any potential challenges associated with adding a high-profile player.

Kansas City’s depth chart also presents an interesting opportunity. Beyond its established contributors, the team continues to evaluate several younger receivers, including Jimmy Holiday, Jalen Royals, and Cyrus Allen, as it determines the composition of its roster entering the season.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice’s availability for the full year. While the Chiefs remain confident in their offensive system, adding a player with Diggs’ experience could provide additional insurance for a team expected to compete for another Super Bowl.

3. Waiting for the Next Opportunity

For now, Diggs remains in a holding pattern as teams continue assessing their needs before training camp. Free agency often extends deeper into the offseason for veteran players, particularly those whose situations involve factors beyond on-field performance.

The coming weeks may prove critical in determining whether Diggs receives another opportunity and what type of role he ultimately accepts. Teams seeking depth and playoff experience could become increasingly interested as roster evaluations continue.

Kansas City is unlikely to be the only organization monitoring the situation. Contenders across the league routinely explore low-risk additions capable of making an impact, especially when those players possess Diggs’ track record.

Ultimately, Diggs’ next chapter may depend on his willingness to embrace a different role than the one he occupied during his prime. If he is open to that transition, there are reasons to believe he can still provide meaningful contributions to a team with championship ambitions. As Hasselbeck noted, the value remains present—the question is which organization will decide it is worth the investment.
