The Golden State Warriors are navigating one of the most challenging stretches of their season as injuries continue to deplete the roster. With several key players sidelined, Golden State is fighting to remain competitive in the Western Conference while trying to avoid slipping into the 9–10 positions of the play-in tournament.
For their recent matchup against the New York Knicks, the Warriors were missing a long list of contributors. Among those unavailable were franchise star Stephen Curry, defensive anchor Draymond Green, and veteran big men Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.
The injury list extended even further, including guards De’Anthony Melton, Moses Moody, and Seth Curry. With so many players unavailable, the Warriors have been forced to rely heavily on depth pieces and younger contributors to keep the team afloat.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Curry has attempted to maintain a lighthearted perspective during his recovery. The veteran guard recently joked about his rehabilitation situation, finding humor even as the team battles through a demanding period.
1. Injuries Leave Warriors Shorthanded
Golden State’s injury problems have accumulated steadily throughout the season, leaving the coaching staff scrambling to piece together lineups. The situation became even more complicated after star forward Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn ACL earlier in the year. Losing Butler removed a major offensive and defensive presence from the roster, placing additional pressure on the team’s remaining veterans. As the injuries continued to pile up, the Warriors found themselves operating with what amounted to a heavily depleted rotation. The absence of Curry has been particularly impactful. The two-time MVP has missed 17 games while dealing with knee issues, leaving Golden State without its most dynamic scorer and playmaker. Without him on the floor, the Warriors’ offensive rhythm has often stalled. His gravity as a shooter typically opens space for teammates, and his absence has forced others to shoulder responsibilities that normally revolve around his presence.
2. The ‘Rehab Brothers’ Joke
While the circumstances surrounding the injuries are serious, Curry has tried to maintain a sense of humor. During a recent interview, he jokingly referred to himself and his younger brother, Seth, as the “Rehab Brothers.” The nickname is a playful twist on the famous “Splash Brothers” moniker Curry once shared with longtime backcourt partner Klay Thompson. That duo became one of the most recognizable partnerships in NBA history thanks to their elite three-point shooting. In contrast, the “Rehab Brothers” label reflects the unfortunate reality that both Curry siblings have spent much of the season recovering from injuries rather than sharing the court. Seth has appeared in only four games for Golden State this year. His latest setback came when he exited a recent game because of adductor soreness, adding to the team’s growing list of health concerns. For the Warriors, the challenge has been finding ways to stay competitive while waiting for reinforcements to return.
3. Waiting for Curry’s Return
Golden State’s hopes for the remainder of the season largely hinge on Curry’s eventual return. According to recent reports, the veteran guard is targeting a comeback before the end of March. Even at this stage of his career, Curry remains one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league. His ability to stretch defenses with deep shooting continues to transform the way opponents must prepare for the Warriors. Beyond scoring, Curry’s leadership and playmaking elevate the entire roster. His presence often creates opportunities for teammates simply through the attention he draws from defenders. The question facing Golden State is whether there will be enough time to regain momentum once he returns. With the playoff race tightening, the Warriors are trying to stay within striking distance while awaiting the return of their franchise cornerstone.
