Because the reality is becoming harder to ignore. Stephen Curry is still elite, still capable of carrying a team, still one of the defining forces in the game. But the window is not what it used to be. Every season from here on carries more weight than the last.
And that urgency is beginning to show. According to recent reports, the Warriors are preparing to go all-in this offseason. Not for role players. Not for incremental upgrades. But for something much bigger.
A serious push for either LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard.
1. A Shift Toward Desperation
Just a few months ago, the idea would have felt far-fetched. Adding a superstar of that magnitude to an already complex roster would raise questions about fit, chemistry, and long-term direction. 3. Why LeBron or Kawhi Makes Sense
In that context, the logic behind targeting LeBron or Kawhi becomes easier to understand. Both players offer something the Warriors desperately need. Star power. Experience.
The ability to shift a franchise’s trajectory almost instantly. LeBron, even at this stage of his career, remains one of the most complete players in the game. His ability to control tempo, create opportunities, and elevate teammates could complement Curry in ways few others can.
Kawhi, when healthy, brings elite two-way impact. His defensive presence, combined with his scoring efficiency, would address some of the Warriors’ biggest weaknesses. Neither option is perfect. But both represent a clear upgrade.
Of course, making such a move is far from simple. The Warriors would need to navigate a tight financial landscape to even make the pursuit possible. Getting below the luxury tax line would be a critical first step, opening access to the non-taxpayer mid-level exception. That figure, projected around $15 million, could be enough to entice a superstar willing to take a reduced deal in the right situation.
