The Golden State Warriors have agreed to sign center Omer Yurtseven to a 10-day contract, according to a report from ESPN insider Shams Charania. The move comes as Golden State looks to strengthen its interior depth while navigating a challenging point in the NBA season.
Charania reported the signing Saturday, citing Yurtseven’s agents Keith Glass and Luke Glass. The 27-year-old center recently returned to the United States after spending part of the season overseas and had just begun playing in the NBA G League when the opportunity with Golden State emerged.
Yurtseven quickly drew attention with an impressive showing in his first week back in the U.S., delivering a dominant 36-point, 12-rebound performance in a G League game on Friday night. That outing helped showcase the scoring and rebounding ability that once made him a promising young big man during earlier stops in the NBA.
For the Warriors, the move represents a low-risk evaluation period. With a 10-day contract, the team can assess whether Yurtseven can provide the size, rebounding, and interior presence that the roster has occasionally lacked this season.
1. A Familiar Path Through the NBA
Yurtseven last played in the NBA during the 2023–24 season with the Utah Jazz. In 48 appearances for Utah, including 12 starts, the 7-foot center averaged 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting an efficient 53.8% from the field. While his role in Utah was limited, Yurtseven demonstrated flashes of versatility during his minutes. In addition to his inside scoring, he occasionally stepped beyond the arc, attempting three-point shots despite connecting on just 20.8% of those attempts. Before joining the Jazz, Yurtseven spent two seasons with the Miami Heat. It was during his time in Miami that he began to attract league-wide attention for his rebounding instincts and ability to produce when given extended playing time. In certain stretches with the Heat, Yurtseven delivered strong performances on the glass and provided efficient scoring around the basket. Although he never secured a permanent starting role, he established himself as a reliable depth option capable of contributing when called upon.
2. Return From Overseas and G League Impact
After his stint with the Jazz, Yurtseven began the current basketball season overseas in the EuroLeague. Playing internationally allowed him to stay active and continue developing while waiting for another potential opportunity in the NBA. More recently, the Turkish big man returned to the United States and joined the NBA G League in hopes of re-entering the league. The move quickly paid off, as his strong performances immediately caught the attention of NBA teams looking for frontcourt help. His breakout moment came Friday night, when he erupted for 36 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a dominant showing. The performance highlighted the scoring touch and rebounding presence that had once made him a valuable rotational piece earlier in his career. That outing appears to have helped trigger Golden State’s interest. The Warriors moved swiftly to bring him in on a short-term deal, giving him the chance to prove that his recent production can translate back to the NBA level.
3. Warriors Seek Stability During Tough Stretch
For the Warriors, the signing arrives at a time when the team is searching for solutions during a difficult stretch of the season. Golden State currently sits at 32–34 and is trying to regain momentum after dropping four consecutive games. Throughout the year, injuries and lineup adjustments have forced the team to experiment with different rotations. Adding Yurtseven provides a potential option for additional size and rebounding in the frontcourt as the coaching staff evaluates possible combinations. A 10-day contract offers flexibility. It allows the Warriors to test Yurtseven’s fit within their system without making a long-term commitment, while also giving the center an opportunity to showcase his abilities in meaningful games. Golden State will hope the added depth helps stabilize the roster as it prepares for its next matchup against the New York Knicks. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock as the Warriors attempt to end their losing streak.
